So i've jsut got a call from "the natural gas company" telling me they have arranged a technician to come and clean/inspect my heater... apparently my dad never asked for one either

is this normal? and why would they say only "natural gas company"? wouldnt be Embridge or whatever?

someone shed some light on this plz

One of two things. Either it's a competing company trying to get your business, and the call is a sales ploy.

Or it's a thief, who's casing the house. I had a similar experience with a company claiming to be Rogers once. Make the guy show you a drivers license and get his plate number when he shows up, and call Enbridge to see if they have any company working in the area that day or if they have any notes on your account. Get the names of everyone you speak to, at enbridge, and whoever shows up. It's POSSIBLE they outsourced a contractor for some general maintenance work, but sometimes they're sketchy. Better safe than sorry...

if your warning lights are going up why not cancel the appointment and then call your natural gas supplier directly and ask them about servicing the furnace?
