View Full Version : How cheap of a RFDer are you compared to me?

I was standing in line today at the grocery store when an older lady, age 60ish, in front of me notices that her 24 case of coke scanned through at $7.47 instead of the sign's price of $6.47. An employee had forgot to change the price from last week.

The cashier basically says she's paid to scan the item and charge whatever comes up. Being a RFDer, I step in and tell the cashier to look over her shoulder to point out the HUGE $6.47 sign with a load of coke underneath it. The cashier then changes it to $6.47 and is about to continue on. I inform the cashier about the Scanning Code of Practice (SCOP) and and that the lady should get the first case of pop free and point to the sign directly in front of her face.

She says, "I don't know anything about no free items and if she wants to argue about it, she can go talk to the management office."

Anyhow, the old lady backs down and just gets her coke at the $6.47 price and leaves. I quickly pay for my stuff, put it in my car and return to grab a case of coke, get in another line, and proceed to get the case for free after a call to the manager.

If you were in my position, since RFDers are always looking for a deal, how cheap would you be?

I don't buy pop unless it's $4.99 @ case or less
I just bought a case of mountain dew energy and a case of A&P root beer
today at Shopper's Drug Mart for that price :D

p.s. I've used the scanning code law about 3 times at Walmart
and once at Superstore ;)

lol, nice story.

I would bring my brothers and cousins and we'd take turn going in the store/multiple lines and get as much free pop as possible. :cheesygri

Ok, I misunderstood what you were trying to convey. :)

I don't really see how this is you being cheap.

It was their mistake and your benefit.

In my mind cheap would be collecting previously used pop cans, washing them out and filling them with Kool-Aid. Now that's CHEAP.

I guess it seems cheap because I never intended to buy the pop and I was purposely exploiting a "loophole" in the system to get it for free.

Good for you!!!

In addition to getting the cases of coke for free (and > $5 is a lot to pay for a case of 24), I would have sold the free cases outside the supermarket for $5 or sold this info (how to get free case of coke) for $1.

Hilarious.

it's a matter of principle so you did a good thing.
