That trendnet router is a POS. I bought it before when it was on for $4.99 (after MIR) and had to give it to my g/f. I was trying to run BF2 and the server list coming back to me was so sloooooow. I switched over to a D-Link and no problems whatsoever.

These big retailers are getting to be really disappointing. On the biggest sale day of the year, they can’t come up with better deals. There are only a few okay deals in Futureshop appliances, printers and a couple of other small stuff. All the rest are just mail-in rebate, no brand name crap. You can find much better deals in those smaller local retailers for most of the stuff. I think it’s time for people to stop flocking to those big retailer stores like they have no other choices.

Go to NCIX... and price a comparable thing. Intel 945P (no onboard video, sure.. and maybe only 5.1 audio?) board is $130, HD $120, CPU is like $300, RAM is $100, etc. Add whatever video card you'd stick into this thing, and a legit copy of XP MCE.
I'm not sure you'd be much above $900 before the video card, even after you add in the TV Tuner...

If I could build my own thing, and have a full ATX board, a real case, and whatnot, for $100 more than this refurbed HP, I'd say this isn't that hot.

That's a very strange model indeed. On the flyer it looks like it says LN-R3255, but googling turns up zero hit, and there's no such model on Samsung's site (not even archived models) either. From the picture though, it looks exactly like the LE32T51B, which is a European model. Not sure what FS is really selling there.

Its not that hot. The regular price (no rebate hassle) at NCIX for the same drive is only $130. And you can get a Seagate Barracudda there for $130 as well, which is a much better drive (much quieter) and has a 5 yr warranty.

All in all it's a deal you would likely be able to find any given time of the year. FS has crappy prices on HDs cause they don't sell OEM.

That's right..
There isn't much difference between the two models....the 30 is slightly quieter at high fan speed, and also is energy efficient. But the 25 is a great deal that will do about the same job.

I've got the X730 and me and my wife like it a lot. It has a nice feel and looks great, but unfortunately we can't run all the internet keys/media controls/etc. off our Win98 system. The main body of the keyboard (silver part) is detachable from the black base if you don't want it raised up or like it smaller. The mouse does have short battery life (~1 month), but we use rechargeables. This is because the light in the mouse never turns off, even while not in use.

Both Future Shop and Best Buy will have BenQ wireless keyboard/mouse sets on sale at $29.99 (discounted from $129.99) but they are different models. Is there any substantial difference between these two and if so which is better?

It's the same thing for me. I love the keyboard, but the mouse is terrible. (And these are from the people designing BMW's.) Also, I've had to change the batteries once in the last 12 months

Go to NCIX... and price a comparable thing. Intel 945P (no onboard video, sure.. and maybe only 5.1 audio?) board is $130, HD $120, CPU is like $300, RAM is $100, etc. Add whatever video card you'd stick into this thing, and a legit copy of XP MCE.
I'm not sure you'd be much above $900 before the video card, even after you add in the TV Tuner...

If I could build my own thing, and have a full ATX board, a real case, and whatnot, for $100 more than this refurbed HP, I'd say this isn't that hot.


It's hot for non computer builders.......that don't mind a refurb.

This PC has a 300W PS, ASSUMING, its same as the nonrefurb ones.

Be careful with the batteries... Mine (Boxing Dayed last year) was still running on the original batteries until a few weeks ago, when it stopped working. I pop battery cover open, and found the batteries were leaking all over the place...

These big retailers are getting to be really disappointing. On the biggest sale day of the year, they can’t come up with better deals. There are only a few okay deals in Futureshop appliances, printers and a couple of other small stuff. All the rest are just mail-in rebate, no brand name crap. You can find much better deals in those smaller local retailers for most of the stuff. I think it’s time for people to stop flocking to those big retailer stores like they have no other choices.

Maytag has really gone downhill the past 4-6 years. I wouldn't buy a maytag if it was 80% off.. but that's just me. Pity, because Maytag of say 20 years ago was incredible. Many of those washer/driers are still working. Many 6 year old ones aren't or at least need visits from the repair man.

You can find cheaper RAM at any PC store. PC3200 should clock down to 2100 with no problems typically.

Generally speaking, yes and no. Boxing Day prices, I've discovered, is usually the lowest price for the same type of equipment at around 3-5 months later on (March-May). After that, the spread of new technologies being able to be developed at lower prices will take over the original markdown of the Boxing Day prices. My hinch is, wait, because even if you don't get a better deal (a similar deal), you have a longer warranty period.

I suggest that after you order your item(s) that you save the MIR form to your desktop so you have a copy.

It is in PDF format.


Two years ago, I printed it and then lost it. F/S screwed up and removed the item and I had to beg for the MIR here.

Now I always save a hard copy.

Anyone thinking of buying items now and then returning after boxing day for pricematch is crazy... First off I dont think they would allow it... and secondly have any of you noticed the line ups for returns/exchanges after christmast at FS and BB??? The line-ups are crazy at all times of the day for like a month after xmas!!! the easiest way to describe it is people with green lanyards are commission. red lanyards are hourly.

product expert = green = commission only no wage
sales associate = red = wage + commission on product service plans and a few other high margin things

i'm a product expert. i'd say about 70% of employees are commission and 30% are hourly. the hourly guys are generally only hourly because they really don't have a clue about their department, lol. once they figure things out they beg to be product expert because it is about 4x more money.

I personally like HP printers specifically the photo printers, I have one for 3 years now and it's still going strong but read the reviews, Canon printers seem to be pretty decent.

I've been pretty happy with the Canon printers. I had an i850,i860, and i960 that I bought on last years Boxing Day sale. I also had an Pixma IP5000 that I bought from costco and that was an excellent printer as well. The thing I like about Canons is you can get ink for a very good price from a variety of sources. The only thing I haven't liked is that the print head seems to clog up once in awhile, maybe due to not using canon ink? I figured out to unlclog the heads after some trial and error and now all my printers are useable again. I am planning to grab the IP6000D as well. Looks like a nice deal and decent reviews on it. :)

Even if they do lose commissions on returned items, most customers don't return items, due to the extra hassle, lack of time, laziness, or plain forgetting about it. This is the same kind of reasoning behind MIRs - the retailers/manufacturers know that a huge proportion of people who buy stuff with MIRs never get around to sending it in.

So it's in their best interest to do whatever it takes, SAY whatever it takes, to get you to buy the item right there. They have nothing to lose, but everything to gain, by lying to you.

If you're lucky you'll get it before new year, but most likely you won't since post office is closed on monday and tuesday. and the number of orders will be insane.

Edit: FINALLY my order went through. Waited for like 30 minutes after all the steps.

they do restock some of the items. Last year I waited all the way to middle of the afternoon on christmas day to restock, but it did happen. But you shouldn't expect them to restock right now, not before noon tmr.

well, i'm not quite sure if this is correct, but i remember buying stuff at 3am...but i think that's because the sale actually started in PST time...and so it was 3am here in EST......i remember they restocked some of the stuff (popular stuff) like around 7am or so?? and they did it a couple of times througout the day and then once in a while after that...

I went to FS this morning to pick up some blank media. When I got there, about an hour after the store opened, it was still crowded, but I managed to get in a line with about 5 or 6 people in front of me. I was there for over an hour. Two different people in line tried to pay for their items using Interac for amounts that were over their daily limits. The FS clerk told them to call their banks to try to get a temporary limit increase for today. Instead of moving their orders to the side and checking in others, they waited. If I had realized it would take me so long, I would have left immediately, but I kept saying to myself "it'll just be a couple of more minutes"...
