GameCube has some really fun exclusives, it's the only "current generation" console I own. :)

no i'm not interested in the xbox.
on the one hand i want a ps2 for final fantasy, but the gamecube has zelda (and naruto..that looks like fun!) so.. i dunno. i think the ps2 has a larger game catalog

The GC is also extremely cheap right now with tons of bundle options. Some of the bundles if you price everything normally (control/game) the GC ends up being $25!
I'd hate to dissuade anyone from picking one up, but the Revolution will be launched this year and appears to be 100% backwards (GC) compatible... unlike the 360 and PS3. Also it's very very likely the Rev will be $200 CAD or lower! :-0 :!: :D

Basically look at both systems and see what games you want to play then go for that system. I own all current gen systems and personally I have played my Gamecube the most thanks in most part by the nintendo exclusives on the console.

Trust me at the price the GC is going for now (plus the price of the games) it is easily the best deal for your cash right now... I highly suggest getting a gamecube.... so many good exclusives!
BTW, i am picking up 2 controllers at wal-mart boxing day. :)

I agree. With Wal-mart selling the GC for $72.23 on boxing day (page 6 of flyer), you can get 2 systems for the price of the ps2. I don't know why anybody would need 2 systems, so spend the $70 on games and the wavebird controller. :)

BTW, I remember seeing some Gamecubes having these $10 off of any Nintendo Gamecube controllers. If you can use those, you only have to pay $18 for the Wavebird.

You really should. And then you'll be able to play the GOOD version of Resident Evil 4 :P
As for people owning multiple systems, it's a good thing to do if you have multiple family members. In my house we've got 2 gamecubes, 2 ps2 slims, 1 xbox, and 2 dreamcasts.
Anyways, i think i'll pick up a wavebird at that price. Since the original gamepads cord is sooooo short. My brother is pretty pissed about that though, since he just bought one like a week or so ago (for $36 or so)

wow... ur whole family are hardcore gamers!
well, each system has their own "+"'s ....
PS2- wide variety of games, RPG, fighting games...
XBOX- graphics, Halo1/2, etc.
GCN- family games, Mario classics!, Zelda, Metroid...
i'd like to own as many consoles as u do, but u know... u can't have everything ;)

Forgot to mention that I have a sega saturn as well (2d gaming at its finest!)
Anyways, yeah. Me and my brother are pretty hardcore into gaming. We've been into it since the days of the atari.
Also, those points you brought up are pretty true. We all know the best reason to own a PS2 is for rpgs (if you're an rpg nut). Seriously, that's what 85% of my game collection consists of :P
I'm not to worried about walmart being sold out of wavebirds though. Last time i was there, they had loads of them. And people don't seem to rush to my walmart that early on boxing day.

I think alot of mine is posted over at http://desfunk.1up.com, but there is stuff missing from there (like alot of the imports i own)
As for the GBA player. Wasn't it cheaper LAST YEAR at walmart? I remember it being $39 or something. Too bad i never picked it up (i should have just for the castlevania and metroid games)

Picked up a game cube and Metroid prime game early this morning. Wasn't insane like at future shop. Unfortunately they didn't get all there stock in yet for the boxing week sale. They said the wavebird controllers, the ones they had on the shelf had a different sku then the one's listed in the flyer.Wouldn't ring-in at the sale price Will have to go back later in the week for the controller.
Also picked up Halo2 since couldn't get thru the checkout online at futureshop. Much easier then trying to fight the insanity at futureshop early morning line-ups for the priviledge of not getting what you want.

I picked up 2 Wavebirds this morning, was there just before 8am. They only had 2 left on the shelf and, as previous poster said, it didn't seem like they got the stock yet for the sale. They did ring in at the correct price though.
I was surprised how "quiet" it was for boxing day.

They didn't ring in at the right price at the Wal-Mart I went to as well. I guess that's why there was a lot at my location (or maybe not a lot of people wanted it). I did show him the flyer and got the right price though. Isn't the wavebird a 1 day sale only?
I wanted to get the rechargeable batteries as well but they were all sold out.

Anywhere still have the Wavebird controller? I also have a $10 off coupon for Nintendo controllers so $28-$10=$18 for the wavebird, went to the Markville Wal-Mart today and they didn't have them...

I got the last wavebird at my walmart. She also mentioned the SKU thing, but still did a manual override and fixed the price (since technically it's the same product)
Then later I found a rechargeable battery pack for it, in a clearance bin at blockbuster (for like $5)

That's great to hear!! Sounds like I made a good choice.
I bought one on Boxing Day at Walmart, having never owned a game system previously. My thinking was it plays many of the same games as xbox and ps and was a great value at $72. I also have 2 young kids and there are many unique titles for children.
A BestBuy associate later told me a game title would play exactly the same on NGC as on an xbox etc. He made it sound like NGC is underrated as both the xbox and NGC both have a newer chipset and therefore both good quality graphics.

I picked up a gamecube tonight for $72, and also a wavebird for $28, i saw that there is still a couple wavebirds left at the White Oaks Walmart in London, Ontario. I am going to go back tommorow to pick up metroid prime 2.
then i went over to EB games and bought a 3rd party mem card for $25, and viewtiful joe 2 for $15
overall, i am liking the system so far

Is there more than one version of the wavebird? There was one left today at my local Walmart. The manager scanned and said the UPC was different (the last 3 numbers) and they are not the same as the one in the flyer and wouldn't give me the flyer price. It looks exactly the same to me as the one in the flyer and scanned at the original price of $38.86.
Should I have been able to get the sale price?

The Wavebird is available in both a Grey and Platinum colour. Each colour probably has a different UPC. If the flyer doesn't say which colour is on sale, you do have a good arguement of getting it for the sale price.

In the Ottawa W-M, the gray one is $28.xx, but the silver one is still $38.xx. Try to find a gray one and ask them to scan the price.

Was lucky and found one grey wavebird left at Walmart Agincourt mall in Scarborough tonight.
So there may still be a chance some Walmarts still have a few lying around if you go to the right location.
