Workin on mom's computer...and I know it has centrino....is that the same as Bluetooth? I guess not since it's a different name.

How do I figure out if it does have built-in Bluetooth? DO? Laptops have built-in? or you HAVE to buy a usb adapter?

It's a 2-3 year old MDG Laptop that's STILL GOIN STRONG!!! :cheesygri

Bluetooth is not the same thing. Chances are, if you didn't explicitly request it when you bought the laptop, it doesn't have it.

centrino is referring to the type of processor the laptop has, like pentium or athlon, it has nothing to do with bluetooth.

bluetooth is a type of wireless connection whereby you can connect outside peripherals, like keyboards, mouses, and featured on most cell phones and pdas now too. a similar technology to infrared, both these types are usually configured internally or via usb connectivity, except bluetooth has a more stronger range.

i doubt your lappy has bluetooth since its an MDG, which isnt known to be configured with bluetooth. mine came pre-installed and configure with bluetooth right from the factory.

to test, you should find a bluetooth compatable device, like a cell phone perhaps and enable bluetooth on there and then enable bluetooth on you laptop by going to "my bluetooth places" and see if you can download a wallpaper, ringtone or a small file to your cell phone. attempt to sync them together if its a pda your using.

if you cant find these settings, then you dont have bluetooth.

but its an easy fix, just buy this to add bluetooth to it

hope this helps ;)

In order for bluetooth to work, whether built-in or adapter, you need the software. So the easiest way to find out if you have bluetooth configured on your computer is to...click on start(bottom left corner) and do a search for bluetooth. If you find it then you have it and the results will display where its at. Otherwise if you want bluetooth just get an adapter like DJ_Peanuts22 mentioned above.

You should be able to tell if you go to device manager and look for any bluetooth device.

...........enable bluetooth on you laptop by going to "my bluetooth places" .....

This is my question. I dont' see that in my settings in ctrl panel. I wanted to be sure that it wasn't simply that the drivers weren't installed.

Is it possible that the laptop HAS BT...but because of drivers not being installed..that option ?my bt places? doesn't show up?

I'll be trying to do the same /pair my dad's Razr/on his brand SPANKING new top'oh'da line Dell lappy in the next couple days also...

and no most likely you don't have bt on your laptop because the drivers should already be installed for you to use from the factory.

Everyone is not realizing my question...You're all saying., "it should be installed"...well my question is..if it isn't...is it possible? This laptop has gone through hell and back. It is absolutely not on it's original install...so whatever came from MDG...is long gone. I need to know if the hardware is still there or not.

anyway., off to Boxing Extravaganzzzzzzzzzzzas. :)

Buddy here is your post :arrowu: and your questions....

"How do I figure out if it does have built-in Bluetooth?".....do a search and you should find the software

DO?

Laptops have built-in?...the lastest MDG Visionbook(Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology) has bluetooth...considering you mentioned its 2-3years old...your laptop will most likely not have built-in bluetooth.

Your next question is "Do I have to buy a USB adapter?"...if you look at my previous post I mentioned that if you don't have it installed you will need a USB adapter if you want bluetooth enabled on your laptop....

...and considering the previous post by Homer88....you should check to see if you even have wireless capabilities on your MDG laptop in the first place.

maybe you should have asked this question "if it isn't.... is it possible?"...in the beginning..... :)

http://xs61.xs.to/pics/05522/btoooooo3.JPG

Found in hardware???? so I MUST have these bluetooth devices onboard.
http://xs61.xs.to/pics/05522/btoooooo4.JPG

This comes up whenever I try to find a device....or do anything really?
http://xs61.xs.to/pics/05522/btoooooo5.JPG

and yet.....again...
http://xs61.xs.to/pics/05522/btoooooo6.JPG

Just to reiterate....NONE of those devices showed up prior to the software installation...I am baffled.

if you have a bluetooth adaptor, it will show up in device manager whether you have the proper driver/software installed or not.

You basically just forced a driver installation telling Windows that there is a bluetooth device even though there isn't one. Hence, you have the ports, enumerator, etc basically all the other devices depeneded on the actual bluetooth adaptor itself installed.

One last thing, you don't have a bluetooth adaptor actually installed in the device manager. It doesn't say like D-Link BT120 device or whatever the company of your bluetooth adaptor is.

o and since no one mentioned it why dont you look up your laptops model number at MDG's website, they should have a nice spec page:)

I'm gonna actually take the top into MDG today.

My brother (original owner of laptop) remebers...and reminded me dinstincly that he DID have the software on it when he first got it. I also remember because I had the V300 (Motorola cellphone without BT) at the time...and was mentioning, how if I had the V600 (first Canadian model to have BT by Moto) I could've used it so much...

Now...it may YET be possible...that when they imaged the laptop, their generic ghoster installed BT software when it didn't actually have it...but I'm pretty sure they have custom images for various machines....anyway., time will tell.

He can't remember actual name of laptop ;) <---been only 2 years and a half almost now.
