I've had a MPIO FL100 for a couple of years now, and I think they make very good players. Good menu, good sound quality, and their players are pretty sleek.
Haven't had a chance to play with their newer stuff though.

My girlfriend owns a MPIO but doesn't like the proprietary software that you must use to load the songs on it. However, the new FL300 is a decent player (kinda too small for my liking though) that is plug and play. I would recommend the FL300 1GB :)

Avoid MPIO. The Sandisk they're selling at FS for $70 is very good if you're on a budget.

i have an mpio one (fg200) and i love it. its FM tuner is great and you can use its built in recorder to record FM radio, also record directly from a computer with line in and just using its mic, audio quality is top notch, it also plays video, the screen is really small but its actually quite clear and easy to watch, shows photos, and has a little game which i have never used.
its plug and play, drop files on and off you go, no waiting for them to transfer. it includes a program that converts video files to mp4 and is extremely easy to use.
they really include a lot of extras, a case that clips onto your pants/shirt or whatever, a neclace holder, and arm band, earphones, transfer cable, CD with software.

Sony Lyra
Ok, this is like a mix of two different brands. RCA makes Lyra's.

ok I just found out that Mpio is a futureshop brand and they are mostly crap. some of the new ones actually get hot while playing mp3s, I guess you should get a good heatsink fan for them.

i was always under the impression that MPIO is a Korean company that isn't huge, but is pretty well respected for making quality mp3 players in Asia

There are some MPIO players that are really good, I'd say on par with iRiver. The interface looks the same as well.

It's interesting to find someone telling you to avoid a product to buy an even worse product: avoid people like this in your life!

actually I think he is right, I have a very good friend at FS, he has been there for 7 years and works in the deparment where they sell mp3 players. He strongly asked me to stay away from mpio since they got too many returns from the customers and recomanded me the scandisk, he said its good so I trust "him".

RFDers favourite store Canada Computers has the Samsung YP 780V 256MB for $79. My brother bought one more than a year ago when it was $150 and although it's only 256MB it is excellent quality and has great features like the touchpad.
They also have some Panasonics 256MB as well for $60 and $70 respectively.
The Geil 512MB players at CC also looks interesting.
You can get 512MB Apacers and other no name brands for around the same price from just about any computer shop but not likely to be as reliable as samsung or the panasonic.

I too have had the FL100 since first year (little over 3 years ago), and the thing's still kickin strong. Though a tad short on space now (128 + 256 expandable) but the interface and build quality are top notch. Most MP3 players at the time were plastic, but not the FL100, Magnesium Alloy, just like Sony's MD players at the time.

I have the FL-100 as well. Even though I bought an Ipod Nano recently, I still find myself using the Mpio quite often. Mostly because of the FM tuner.
I would recommend Mpio MP3 players.

Slightly OT: My father has A Philips mp3 player and he really likes the folder system (easy to organize songs) as well as the oled display (much nicer than LCD). He says the fm tuner is also crystal clear.
