yes by address

if you haven't configured an address that they store as a cookie on your machine, the site prompts you for a postal code before you complete the order and may tell you then that they're OOS

What people don't realize is that nobody is actually buying these at all. THey are just wasting their time and getting their hopes up.

The likelyhood that Staples will actually ship these drives is remote at best. More than likely Staples will take their first born child and refuse to ship the drive until they pay another $100.

It really gives people who seek actual good deals a bad name.

It's because of these fake deals that gives Staples a bad name me thinks. :)

And they could easily say that the deal is one per customer, and since they don't, they obviously would like to clear items that are correctly priced at low prices so they wouldn't give a damn who purchases it, as long as the stock clears. Those people are actually giving themselves the "good name" since they are helping clear garbage that Staples thought nobody would want.

Who knows if it's a price error or not? Sometimes it goes thru even when it is like the $10 samsung laser printer deal.

The .97 Logitech headsets seem like a price error and it wasn't.

A $10 plasma TV sounds impossible. However, it did seem plausible that a low capacity USB memory such as 128 meg, which you expect will drop in price very soon seeing that memory prices have fallen very quickly recently, would be liquidated at $1. Heck, in a year you may have trouble getting $5 for one of these.

So, I guess I'm slow and ********. Thank you for your enlightment. If I ever need advice, I know who to ask, Oh Supreme Being!

As slow as me..Give it up already, it's because of flamers like you that good people like me leave forums like this.

The price of this usb key was well within the bounds of believability.I would never have thought that a 10 dollar plasma would have gone thru.

Staples should have a standard policy in regards to price errors.Something along the lines of a standard percentage off the correct price or the error price whichever results in the the greater retail amount for staples. An example could be 30% off. This would be acceptable,at least to me.

A final note for the noob,,,this is how WE do things around here WE try to help each other with useful input. If you don't have any useful input,,well you know the rest

Arsevader

Well this thread hs gone down the *****.

The price of this usb key was well within the bounds of believability.
I would say that this isn't really quite true. FS sold a 128MB key on sale for an amazing price of $10 (66% off). A price that is 10% of that price would be a bit far fetched. When you throw in the variable of Staples (especially online) being the one that is offering it, it makes it even more unlikely that it will be honoured.

It was worth a shot but what really kills these deals are the people that order not just 2 or 3 keys but 50 and above.

mortimusmaximus
Jan 11th, 2006, 09:05 AM
The price of the key was believable in the respect that maybe they were blowing out stock. The reason most of us come here is to find deals that at many times seem unbelievable. The 200 gig drives I got from staples would have seemed like a price error but I went for it anyway. The 80 gig external I got from staples for 80 bucks was a crazy price but I went for it and got it.We should never assume that a price is incorrect or we may loose out on a fantastic deal,,which is after all why we are here.

It's not like it was a 19 inch monitor or a 200gb Hard Drive. The price of USB Thumb drive are going down and 128MB is pretty low. They were able to sell them for 10$ around xmas time at FS and BB. With staples and a price of 0.99 cents it seemed like they wanted to clear them out. I used to work at staples a long long long time ago and you would be suprise of the ammount of things you can find for under a dollars. Just have to search the internal system and be lucky to have some in stock. I bought many Palm Craddle, Jewel Case games, boxed software etc... for under a dollars..

I had ordered 34, like I mentioned. it wasn't 34 19inch monitor. I'm sure you would have done the same thing. And there will be plenty of other deal that you will probably be able to take part of too. :)

I agree and as I said it was worth a shot. What kills the 'deal' is people getting greedy and I'm not saying that you are guilty of this.

In store deals are much more likely to be real. Online only deals of this magnitude are suspect. Staples does this all the time.

I managed to get one of these 99 cent USB drives yesterday from the Stockyards Staples location. Apparently they had seven of these drives and I intended to take all seven. However, when I presented a printout of the web site, the manager was brought into the schene and kept arguing that this was a price error. He added that the web people had already been notified and the price would be adjusted later in the day.

After some arguing he agreed to sell me one of the drives for the 99 cents and took the others into the back room. He also instructed the cashier and the computer sales staff not to honour the PM if anyone else walked into the store.

Later in the day the online price did in fact go back up to $33 - so possibly it was in fact an error.

The thought is that if staples is given or shown a receipt proving that one of their outlets sold said product at said price they will pricematch it.

Just spoke to a manager who was nice enough to talk to me about this deal. There is no way anyone is going to get this deal, even with a receipt. The csr at athe toll free number told me that it will no longer be carried and it was OOS.That was strange when I got a call yesterday saying I could still have them at the new price.I can still have them at that price. The manger did admit that when their is a price error they will pull the stock from the shelves to eliminate any problems with customers wanting said product at the wrong price.

At least he was nice enough to admit it. :-0
