- works as tech support now
looking to obtain my 1st cert... not interested in A+, which other basic cert should i look onto? any help/suggestions...

definately more professional... oracle is much in demand as well if you in to dba.

I dont think that you could call MCSE a basic certification. As well, if you want to seperate yourself try for more along Unix/Linux as more and more companies are looking for specialists in this are.

what is more in-demand, linux administration or database administration? i think im going to get more into the linux side of IT
ALSO would i be able to get into the IT game as helpdesk or tech support with half a diploma and A+? this is just to start with, id probably finish college and do uni part time

Linux admin skill is a "nice to have" in addition to Windows admin skill. By itself I don't think there are much demand (I used to be a linux sys admin). Canadian enterprises are powered by Windows/AD mostly, rest are a mixture of *nix, such as Linux/Solaris/AIX - therefore Linux admin is a small niche. IMHO, on the IT infrastructure side, storage (SAN/NAS), ESX (VMware) and Exchange are three good areas to get into.
