Hey, I'm interested in applying at Starbucks. I'm just wondering if they require a lot of expierence in retail in order to get a job there. I'm asking because I'd like to know if I stand a chance before applying. Oh yeah, I'm talking about a job inside the store, not a head office job  . Thanks.

wow, that sounds great, however with all those benefits it sounds like a hard job to get. I'm going to apply anyway, but not expecting to get the job.

Think positive!

Dude ... The best way to get a job at startbucks is to approach the manager when it's not busy (say at 10AM on work days) and then present yourself ... with a smile... saying how you are interested in this job, what he's looking for blah blah... and if you're REALLY willing, you can ask him if you can try you out for a day, free of charge... if he likes you he'll keep you. :) Try before you buy u know? Like RFD... !

I'd like a job at Starbucks just for that free 1lb of coffee free per week. (I believe that's what it is?)

Starbucks employees (part time) are required to work a minimum of 15 hours a week (To prevent people from leaching off the companys employee benefits)

thanks for the advice yell0w c0w, that's very helpful and I'll do just that. That's kinda how I got my present job, I just walked up to the manager and talked with him, he barely looked at my resume before giving me an interview.

and I don't see what the problem of working a minimum of 15 hours per week is, my current job only gives me like 10 hours a week (if I'm lucky enough to get that many) now that the holiday season is over, I'm actually looking for a job with lots of hours and Starbucks' wages are great.

^really? I would think that they don't need that many employees because all the people that work there are happy therefore they stay. I'm going to apply to the three locations closest to me. BTW, do I have to fill out an application or is a resume just fine?

No, you need an application at this place. My friends worked there and passed a resume for one of his friends and he needed to fill out an application still. I think as long as you're personable and don't really offend them with your answers you can get a job there. From what I heard, my friends say it's a pretty nice place to work, can't beat the benefits for a part-time worker.

it seems the more facial piercings and or visible tattoo's and of course an odd haircut/colour will guarantee you work with starbucks. gotta love the free beans they give the employee's tho

i currently work at starbucks. starting rate is 8.25/hr and you get tips depending on how many hours you put in. its best to go online and see if there are any starbucks open house, where there are a bunch of managers in one store, who interview/recruit people on the spot.

you can also go to the starbucks you prefer to work at and fill in an application. you might not necessarily get the location you want, your application might get moved around in one district...depending on which location needs people.

as a part-time barista, you have to put in at least 15 hours/week and the benefits would be: free 1lb coffee/week, free drinks during shift, 30% off beverages purchased outside of shift, 40% store products and health benefits after working there for 3 months.

you dont need any experience to become a sbux barista..after you have been accepted, you get trained by the store manager or supervisor and then attend a one day coffee class at the starbucks coffee school (located in north york)

if you got any other questions, feel free to pm me.

good luck!

This is a job for people who:
a) LOVE coffee
b) enjoy customer service
c) can handle REALLY detailed requests for several items (half-caf-double-decaf-caf-foam with a twist of lemon, please!) []
d) can handle a LONG line of requests one after the other
e) can keep smiling through it all
f) have little or no experience in any other job field, so it's either this or work in a call center.
