A dumb question that just popped into my head. Why is it that different countries give different names to the same place?
Just some examples:
Finland is Suomi to the Finns
Spain is Espana to the Spanish
Germany is Deutschland to the Germans
Munich is Muenchen to the Germans
Florence, Italy is Firenze to the Italians
So why these differences (there are thousands of others)? All of these countries use the Roman alphabet, why is it that over time we have not adopted a local naming convention?

Kobe, and some japanese name
Nagayo, Nagano.

Because a lot of names have been anglicanized.......
But locals use there own terms....
Just like Turin vs. Turino

That's kind of my point. Why do we angloize place names? Why not just call it what the locals call it?
