Looking at picking up a Virgin prepaid phone - is the 2125 better or worse then the other Nokia (6015i) and that Audiovox 8615?
I kinda prefer flip phones, but would rather take a better quality phone over anything.

I was the opposite.. I never liked flip phones. But I bought the 8615.. and I like it. Haven't had a problem with it at all. Dropped it once or twice, still works fine. :)

I chose my 6015 over the 2125. Read bad reviews about signal strength and battery life. No problems with my 6015. Apart from it being a bit big.

I picked up the audiovox 8910 over boxing day. (camera flip phone).. Didnt really need the camera and it is pretty low-res but the price was right
Happy with the phone, but be aware that Virgin has NO US ROAMING AGREEMENT.
Found this out the hard way when i went to the states and my phone was useless.
You can call out if you use your amex (at a cost of $3 per call plus big charge per minute. But no incoming or text. CRAP..
They also have no idea when they will have an agreemnet in place, so if you plan to go the the US often, this aint great.
Otherwise in Canada no probs, good service and range ( I think the piggyback on bell's network).

Where were you? I drove to Cincinatti at Xmas and it worked great the whole way. No other pay as you go seems to have or even plans to have roaming.

I had a 6015 and have since picked up a 2125 (at christmas). I'm happy with the newer model, it seems to give the same signal strength and battery life, but in a much more attractive body (although it does 'feel' cheaper).

How much did they charge you for the calls you made from the US?

I can't remember exactly, but it was not cheap. $2.99 or something for the call plus per minute charges. I was just checking it to make sure I'd be able to make emergency calls on the road.

Cool, thanks for the info. I may just pick one of these up tonight then.

from firsthand experience, battery strength and signal are not even close to becoming an issue with the 2125i.

wife has a 2125 (the Shopper's Drugmart "pink" version), and it seems quite good as far as signal strength and battery.

is everyone who's with VM happy with them? anything you don't like? can't decide whether i should get a VM or a 7-eleven Speak Out Phone Plan (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233247&referrerid=13765) for my dad. The SO plan is min $25 fill up, but it doesn't expire for 1 year. It does have $1.50 e911 fee, but may be worth not having to remember to fill up every 3 months.

Virgin Mobile's airtime expiry is actually 4 months (120 days). I think you can also sign up with your credit card to automatically top-up whenever your balance is running low or about to expire.

Indeed you can. They can automatically top up your account with your CC when your balance reaches a certain level that you decide.
I've switched from Telus (after 5 years) to VM recently and I'm quite happy. I think they offer the best value for occasional callers/

I was thinking of switching from Fido to VM myself, but now I'm contemplating the 7-11 Speak Out Phone Plan which is ideal for me since I only use the cell for emergencies. Anyone know how if I can go under the 7-11 plan using my current Fido or old Rogers phone, which I would have to unlock ? I guess that would depend on if I can get a 7-11 SIM card.
I found out with Virgin M. CSR that there are no activation fees or CID or VM voice mail fees. Unlike Fido/Rogers plans, VM doesn't charge you even when someone leaves a 3 min. message let's say. They only charge you when you use airtime to check that VM, but it's free if you use a home phone. The only disadvantage is that on their site they state that they don't have service in the US yet.

Only prob is I'm sure they don't just sell the SIM's on their own! Otherwise I might go this route. NOTE: best not to turn this thread into a speakout thread. You should ask your S.O. questions on the thread i posted above as the answers may already be there and/or someone on that thread would most likely know the answer as oppose to this thread. LMK if you end up finding a way to get a SIM on it's own though.
