I use my computer a lot in my home office for development and like to listen to music streamed from my home theater computer downstairs as I work. I'm currently using a pair of cheasy computer speakers that came with one of my systems and the sound is pretty sub par. I'm looking at getting a micro stereo system to use with my computer rather then computer speakers and simply hook the computer into it through an input. The reason being is I want to be able to use it independently from the computer at times.

I'm currently considering the Panasonic SC-PM91D system http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000816XKC/103-7070034-5152600?v=glance&n=172282. I like the fact it has a built-in DVD player which I plan on connecting to my monitor through the component inputs to let my son watch movies without having to use the computer. Additionally, if I upgrade down the road the DVD feature would be useful if I move this to a bedroom. Having said that, if there is another system with wildly better sound but lacked the DVD capability I woulds till consider it.

My only other requirement is that it look at least somewhat business like, no tricked out systems targetted at 18 year olds.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for the suggestion as I had not noticed that unit before, I like the look of it better then the Panny unfortunately this only has composite out for the DVD whereas the Panny as a component output. This is worth the extra $50 bucks for the Panny for me.

I really like my JVC micro systems, they have a AUX in sounds pretty good for the price.

Another one I considered was the JVC FSY1...

But in the end my gf didn't really need the dvd playback so I got her the Sony CMTA70.

I dropped into 2001 Audio Video and Best Buy today, one thing that was of interest was that a couple of the systems had a USB plug for streaming audio directly from a computer (like the JVC FSG5). It's an interesting feature, anyone have any experience with this to know if it actually works or is it a waste of time?
