What are some good methods of advertising websites, that are not too costly?
I'm looking into opening a site or two, and I want to know what you guys do to advertise, and how much it costs (monthly).

check the forehead in the avatar above you. I'm sure he would help out a fellow RFDer at a reasonable rate

Why don't you tell us what you want to get into then?

Google is a fairly decent benchmark...if it's expensive in Google, it will be expensive elsewhere...

Pick up a book or do some reasearch on guerilla marketing if you're looking for cheap methods.

Go on as many forums as you can find and post the URL. Success guaranteed. Promise.

There are ALOT of web'master forums out there, trust me. Do a few searches and you'll be fine.

*Avoid the "one million unique visitors in a month" claims, their a waste of time

I've seen some forums with "Spam" areas for exactly this purpose, but I don't think those threads get much views.

You can put a link in your sig though and post ***** like mad...

You could also try gettin traffic thru backlinking.. submit some of you content (re-worded of course) to sites like goarticles.com

when people look up a topic.. lets say "website advertising" then they may click your submitted article. If this think its good content they may take ur article and put it on their site ONLY if they keep the "about the author" profile. Backlink it to your page.

www.copyscape.com and check where your article is being used a month or two

theres Alot of ways you can go about "advertising"

Optimize the webpage for higher search engine rankings. It's worth the time or the money to do it. If you aren't on page 1 or 2 of the top search engines, you will not get any traffic coming to your site.

Well lets say you wanted to get into a gambling or porn site business, it's almost impossible to compete with the huge sites to be in the high rankings, they pay a ton for it.

Yes, SEO is very tough for competitive keywords, unless you are really good at it and have a large budget for buying links.

That advice is just as good as telling an alcoholic to stop drinking.
