I love this community since it's so close knit helping each other bargain hunt. But wondering if there are any RFD events where members meet in person? From Toronto and this idea would be quite interesting:)

Ya, RFD mostly consists of anti-social nerds (myself included) so meeting people is too much. Sorry.

There have been meet ups before.

But like it's been said, I wouldn't want to have separate the politicos from each other...

RFD specific events? Not really. But last October (?), I and some people from RFD met up to play capture the flag.

If you want general RFD events, that's probably not going to fly unless people are meeting together for another purpose other than, well, just meeting each other. My 2 cents.

I don't think people feel comfortable meeting people on the Internet. Even if you talked to the person for a long time, even if you know it's safe, it will be awkward.

i've met TONS of people off of the internet. I've got whole circles of friends because of it. However, we all share a common interest (paintball for example)

I've met a lot of people from RFD too, however that's been on a sale basis, never really to just 'hang out'

but yeah, if there was something to do, i'd be game.

I've met people from other comunites I'm a part of.

RFD for some reason seems very closed. Unless you're making a sale I don't see people getting together very often.

Only in rare situations.

I probably wouldn't jump at the chance to go meet people.

Every comunity can be more or less open to meetings.

Someone needs to hold an RFD conference where cheap people congregate to discuss ways of "saving money" (but in the end, spend more money).

And in true spirit, registration would be $200, but with a coupon code and early bird, it ends up being -$20.

That is if you can get the registration before the server crashes from RFD effect...and cheap registration is only one day starting at about 4am EST ....you'll have to clear your cache to see the page.

Of course, there is a price error and it's actually $250, so it works out to be $30. And of course, everyone who registered for -$20 threatens to sue for false advertising.

And in the end somehow some people will get $20 in the mail for the registration and some people will get nothing but a short and template "sorry for the price error"

I was just thinking about this today, and it doesn't seem like such a good idea. Imo the community is a bit too big and loose ... and plus I bet you anything it will just turn into one huge debate about politics or religion :D

and we can all wear our RFD t-shirts that was never produced but was mentioned a long long long time ago when somebody said its the t-shirt to wear to stooples

lol, seriously, I think out of all the forums in the internet, our forum is the least likely to ever get together. Mainly because the reason for us being here isn't doesn't exactly generate a lot of topics to talk about. Unless ofcourse you want to hold a weekly meeting where someone brings that week's flyers and we have a discussion about the prices

Ya plus approx how many RFD members are here from Toronto (or other places)?

If we did do something like this we would need to rent out a banquet hall or something to fit all the people.

I wouldn't call it anti-social.

I'm a pretty social person, however I probably just wouldn't trust most of the people on these boards.

Sure there's a handfull of people I'd probably meet, but I'm not going out of my way.

This is just one of those comunities that I consider to be online only.

Though it's kind of ironic that I don't meet local people, but yet I've met numerous people from other countries on other message boards. ;)

They meet anywhere there's a deal to be had that's posted on the forum. I remember over a year ago people from RFD were swarming walmarts to grab as many 25-pk spindles of Maxell DVD-R's made by Taiyo Yuden for $12.

Wal-Marts all across the country were swarmed with RFDers and people were posting how they met there and if I remember a story about some guy leaving wal-mart with a shopping cart of at least 50 spindles...he had to be an RFDer :cheesygr

Tell ya what..

If I ever win big on a lottery (10 mil or more) I'll host a large party for all RFD'ers.

At the end of the night, everyone who has:

- registered before this posting @ Feb 23/06 5:05 PM
- who are at least 19 years of age at the time of the event
- and do not have or have ever had a ban status

Will go home at the end of the night with a coupon for one free "insert latest top of the line DELL LCD here" :p

What if you win $9.90 million? Still a party? How about a party at the Mad Hatter?

The reason why people online are the way they are is that they're under the cover of anonymity. Put a name and a face with a handle, and they'll suddenly change. More conservative, etc.

That WAS the plan...but then I found out how much that'd cost...

Tell ya what...if you guys can find a cheap place to find identical wristbands - the ones the banquet hall uses to make sure there's no party crashers - sure, everybody in.

Why would you invite some random Internet people from a penny pinching forum to your wedding

It would be impossible to organize an RFD meet. The cheapos could never decide what day to meet for the McDeal.
