View Full Version : Can I Ask For A Chargeback For Non-Receipt Of Goods?

I recently purchased something from an individual (not a store) and paid the seller using Paypal.

After sending the payment, the seller has become non-responsive and I am getting bad vibes from him (he has been making excuses for delaying delivery and was ignoring my emails). The transaction has all of sudden turned into what very much resembles a scam. :|

I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me if the seller doesn't end up sending the item to me? Can I do a chargeback on my credit card? And is there anything the seller can do to prevent the chargeback?

Also, when do you think I should notify my credit card company? So far, it has been a week and a half. He said he would send the item out the next day, but a week and several emails later (to which he has only responded to one) he tells me that the item is elsewhere and has to wait to get it back from someone. Right.

How would I go about doing a chargeback? I have never done one in my life, and I would greatly appreciate if someone would be able to help me out on this.

Or do you think I should deal with PayPal first by filing a claim? I am hesitant to do this because I have NEVER had a successful outcome dealing with PayPal's buyer complaint process.

Thanks!

Deal with Paypal first.
File a complaint with them, but do it now, because you only have 30 days.
Tell them the person has ignored your e-mails and the item has not been delivered.
If they don't get your money back, then try and do the chargeback.

The reason for that is that if you do a chargeback, Paypal is going to suspend your account. If you can avoid that, you may as well.

I recommend staying away from Paypal though. Sooner or later, they will scam you out of money somehow.

Thanks for the advice. I went ahead with filing the PayPal complaint. They said the claim was settled in my favour, but I only recovered $0.33. :|

So should I go ahead and do the chargeback now? Can I still do it? And can someone give me some pointers as to how to do it, who I should contact, what the process is like, etc? Thanks so much.

Contact your credit card company. Tell them you paid for something but never received it and Paypal has refused to be of any assistance (like usual). Tell them you would like to do a chargeback. They'll likely send you some forms in the mail that you'll have to fill out and return. After that, they may or may not do it for you.

I highly suggest not using Paypal anymore. They don't protect anyone but themselves! Find other ways to pay.

Thanks Shaner, okay so I called my credit card company and they said that I should wait until the 30th of this month to file the chargeback with them.

And yes, I will be wary of using PayPal from now on.

I experienced similar incident, reported to PayPal and they turned me down. Contacted CC ask for charge back, the CC company then charged back to PayPal and PayPal send couple nasty email that I should send the money back to Paypal... which I just ignored them.

At the end PayPal ask why didn't do it through them instead of CC :-0 :-0

I think it's 45 days now (as of a year ago approx). The auction must support Paypal buyer protection to be eligible.

No problems with Paypal for me (as a seller anyway). I guess I attract good buyers. :)
