regular pop: coke
diet pop: diet pepsi

Diet coke doesn't taste like coke at all. Diet pepsi, on the other hand, tastes very close to it's sugared cousin.

Worldwide, Coke is the clear winner. However, PepsiCo as a company has more than double the assets of Coke Cola Company.

Pepsi is a smart company, they are heavily diversified. They own Taco Bell, Pizza Hut etc.

Coke rules as far as fountain sales. Both companies have been buying up the competition for the last two decades. The cola wars continues.

However, there is a new enemy on the horizon.

In 1980 the CEO of Coke Cola said he was not afraid of Pepsi. He claims his real enemy is

WATER.

Nestle is the new enemy.

wesleyw
Jun 26th, 2005, 11:42 PM
I really don't have a preference over one or the other. Pepsi tastes sweeter and has a longer after-taste. I will take whatever if available. But if they both are available, and only those two, then probably coke.

I find that President's Choice does make a good imitation of Coke (and Pepsi) and is cheap, but is not a cheap immitation of them.

But lately, i have lessened my pop intake, and gone to the carbonated waters such as club soda. Better for quenching thirst on the really hot days. Downing a Coke really makes you more thirsty sometimes.

Coke is the market share leader due to.... Marketing.

In blind taste tests, Pepsi always comes out on top.

Strange how that works?

Even in my own mind, Coke is the #1 brand/name in the cola world.

However, I have chosen Pepsi in every blind taste test I have ever done. Therefore, I prefer Pepsi over Coke.

What do I purchase and drink?.... store brand cola... PC Cola, etc. Mix it with Alberta Premium and it's a wonderful brew ;)

Maybe I'm wrong. But I believe its different.

Pepsi spun off their restuarant business years ago. The company is known as YUM Brands Inc. ticker - YUM

From digging around.. Pepsi does not even own a majority share in YUM. Instead, they provide them with all products.

....................YUM.................PEPSI..... ...........COKE
Market Cap---$14.85B............$6.99B..............$102B
Profit ------- 8.34%..............4.06%...............22.15%
Revenue -----$9.10B.............$10.99B.............$22.15B
Total Cash ---$192m..............$250m..............$7.3B
Free Cash ----($34m)............$638M.............. $3.92B

Coke's market cap is 14X greater then pepsi's. With Yum combined with Pepsi, then its still no contest.
But you have to consider that, Pepsi has no ownership in YUM.. if they do, then its very very little.

BTW.. I choose Coke.. i think pepsi tastes like medicine.

Well actually, I just meant Coke before they brought out the "New Coke" and "Coke Classic", but whatever floats your boat.

The funny thing is I remember an interview with three old men who fought to bring original Coke back after Coke released it's New Coke blend. They took the Pepsi challenge and chose Pepsi. What a bunch of morons! Further proof that old people just try to resist change for no reason.

Something seems wrong with those numbers?

Pepsico (PEP) has a Market Capitalization (in millions) of $ 90,895

That does include all of their businesses... so Frito Lay, Gatorade, Tropicana, Quaker, Aquafina, and the rest of the drink business.

They had about 30 billion in revenue for 2004.
Pepsico Beverages North America was 8.3 billion of that revenue.
Pepsico Internation was almost 10 billion.
Frito Lay and Quaker North America was over 11 billion (mostly Frito Lay)

As a stock, Pepsico actually is better rated than Coke. Mostly due to the snack food business Pepsico has, and their better position in non-carbonated drinks (water, power drinks, etc.)

Something seems wrong with my #'s??? your right.. I did a search for Pepsi, which came up with a ticker of PGB.

So yes, Market cap for pepsi is 90B.

Well if you take a look at what these companies own, its just stupid. They are all conglomerates, who are making billions.

Here's a link for the beverage market cap leaders.

I love that weird feeling on my teeth. This way I can enjoy the flavour long after I finished my Coke. Kinda like finding bits of food stuck between your teeth.

Although Coke leaves that weird filmy feeling in your teeth, at least it tastes alright.

Pepsi is over carbonated. Are they trying to hide the fact that there is little taste in their drink. I feel like their technique is almost ninja-esque. Distract the consumer and redirect their attention away from the flavour.

Pepsi has been around a long time too. I'm old fashioned and I drink Pepsi, although I'm trying to get away from it because of the caffeine. I like orange and grape sodas.
IMHO, Coke doesn't satisfy my thirst; Pepsi does. Plus, Coke makes me feel really bloated after I drink it.
