like the member above stated, most buffets in hk r in hotels. they're more expensive than ur typical Buffet King or Mandarin, but the quality is MUCH higher compared to the price difference. there are also cheaper buffets as well as AYCE stuff in HK...... u probably just didn't come across any..

Are these similar to the upscale hotel buffets in Las Vegas (eg Bellagio & Paris)?

Is HK buffet like Singapore noodles? They don't sell Singapore Noodles in Singapore. Locals haven't heard of it before.

no...buffets in HK hotels are much much nicer, I've had the buffet in Bellagio and although it's nice, is not the best. Ya they give you king crab legs, and meat station and such, but it's not on the same par with the buffets of hong kong hotels.
Go to any hotels in hk and there will be a buffet, breakfast buffet, lunch buffet, hi-tea buffet, dinner, late nite/dessert buffet. It's like a famous thing in Hk, I can't believe no one has been.
If you want/go to a nice hotel like Island shangri-la, expect to pay around $80-90CDN.....and that's just lunch. :D
The dessert buffet at Grand Hyatt is very good as well, lots of selection of chinese and western dessert

I had buffet at the Marco Polo Hotel in Jordan... It was HKD $250 (less than CDN $40) and it was better than any buffet i've had here... raw oysters, shrimp, sashimi, curry/roti, crab, satay sticks, lots of desserts....
Hotel style service and quality food at a fair price... mmm... ok i'm hungry now....

Oh how i miss HK.....
anyways, i've had buffet in Intercontinental, Marco Polo in HK island, Maco Polo near Ocean Terminal, Shangri-La, R66 in Wan Chai, and a few others. The price is actually not bad if u have good credit cards b/c almost always, they have promotions like buy 2 get 1 free, or even buy 1 get 1 free. With those promos, it's actually around $25-$30 + tip!
And of course u get all the quality service and quality food unlike fried rice, chow mein, fried chicken, bbq pork, and all those nasty things they serve at buffets here... >:(
