I was tempted to buy the Magic Bullet over the past week but really..is it even worth it??? Isn't it just an overly hyped up food processor? Does anyone actually have one on here...any good reviews?

Marketing is a key to selling products. And if you want to sell something at a higher price, you create a mystique around a product so people will flock to buy it.
People who actually shop for value (for the money) can see through the hype most times.

Friend has one and everytime I'm over, I always make a shake with it. I've found it to be the easiest device to make shakes with and cleanup is SO simple :cheesygri which is a definite bonus.

its great for a lot of things..shakes included...got it for $50 on sale a few months back...no problems with it although many people complain of the "less than stellar" build quality.

I have one and think it's great mostly due to the fact that it's so easy to clean. Compared to a regular blender, the bullet takes me about 10 seconds to clean as opposed to 1 minute or so. 1 minute might not seem like a lot of time but when you're lazy, every second counts. It makes the same stuff a regular blender could but is so much more efficient.

I like my "regular" blender better.
It crushes ice better and is more powerful.
Sure, you don't get the fancy plastic cups with it..or the colored rings.
But the jar is glass and can be put in the dishwasher.
it take maybe 30 sec to clean my reg blender. add water and dish detergent and press the "clean" button, rise in the sink...and done!
my reg blender was $30 at walmart- not on sale!
A GE with 10 speeds!

Well, you aren't going to use the magic bullet everyday like those dudes in the infomercial say they will. Usually, u won't have the ingredients to make what u see on tv. And, c'mon how are u going to come up with things to do like on tv? Okay, lets throw a little bit of pumpkin juice in here, next we put in tomatoes, along with a whole bunch of brocoli then add some milk and a lot of cocoa syrup then some salt and voila u have...something

I use it LOTS. When its out on the counter where you can easily access it, you will find yourself using it quite often. I also think it does a great job on ice cream, which can lots of times be difficult to blend.. Ice on the otherhand often leaves something to be desired, its pretty tough to pulverise it into a fine slush..
I also have put my mugs in the dishwasher plenty, guess I shouldn't be??

Think of it as a milk shake/smoothie maker that is capable of doing some other stuff. That's the Magic Bullet for you. Majority of the people who own it use it almost exclusively for making drinks of some sort. IT can do the other chores, no doubt. Is it really faster on a lot of tasks? They sure make it out to be on TV but I disagree on some. I particularly laugh about chopping garlic. Their garlics are already pre-peeled. If I were to chop garlic from scratch (including peeling), I'll bet you using the knive is much better/faster than the bullet, and the hands will smell just as much. Anyway, to each is own, I guess
There's convenience factor on making some stuff, but mostly for single portion. It's great for university student, or single people. Think of how you are going to use it and decide if you should go ahead with the purchase

Yeah NDman got it right.
Its really handy for making milkshakes, smoothies, protein drinks, mixed drinks, etc. especially because you can mix it right in the cup you can drink out of. (not the greatest cups though) You can just leave it out on the counter and it hardly takes up any space.
When we first got it we made a few of the recipies and they are quick and easy, but we haven't really gotten into the habit of it. The quesadillas turn out quite good. Its handy for mixing up chicken salad or tuna salad for sandwiches too. Have chopped up nuts and nutmeg, works not bad. I tried chopping onions a couple times but its just a pain. You end up with a mix of chunks and mush or if you mix longer - thick pulpy onion juice.

I must say that infomercial as cheesy as it is, is effective. I usually hate the stuff I see on infomercials, but when we saw the Magic Bullet, we bought one on the spot. Paid $99 US plus S&H was like $30. A few months later the price dropped by half.

After reading response #2, I was reminded of a quote:
"Advertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it."

The magical part of the bullet is it's freakishly hypnotizing infomercial.

It's all marketing.
I got taken in when it was still new and expensive. I paid $150US for mine (and that was already a deal at the time).
It's just a blender with microwavable attachments, really. It's great for drinks/smoothies as it doesn't take up much counter top space at all and you can drink right out of the cup (ingenious) but the built-in recipes suck bigtime. I stopped following them after the 15 gross recipe I followed to the letter using the bullet. I think only the nachos recipe was decent.

Use it everyday after training to make smoothies. Had it almost a year. Best thing I bought in a long time. Very easy to clean and small enough to keep on your counter.

things to consider:
For the most part, it is made of plastic.. So don't expect it to stay polished. That dome is going to fog up and absorb oils of food you put into it over time.
By the time you've used it enough for the motor to give out, their warranty might be lifetime, but the company will be looooong gone! Time to buy another product with a different name and do it all over again ;)

i seen the commercial for this thing over 100 times and finally i was tempted to buy one. after i bought it, i looked at it and said "what the heck am i gonna do with this thing???" so then the next day i just sold it my friend for the same price since his mother was looking for a food processor. at least i know it's being used now.
