Now that Rogers doesn't offer anymore news server, I'm looking for another company that would provide the same service. Looking for a company that might offer bandiwdth of (100GB+) or Unlimited. Also the more connections the better. Can anyone recommend a website they are using or have used?

Try this review site:
http://www.canadianisp.com/

There are few that meets your requirement but 100+Gb and with binary groups doesn't seems to make much sense for any ISP anymore. THEY KNOW we are here to download like crazy and they are going to lose money on us...

Well, if you want to stay with roger and get news server only, try this
http://www.giganews.com/

They might not be cheap, but they won't let you down!

Flashnews looks pretty good, but it only has 14 days retention rate. How important is that? I'm a new usenet user...

I assume you want to download files from newsgroup, right?

In newsgroup, people upload file/program/game and break it down into 100 or 1000+ news messages so that upload & download is easier. Sometime it might takes days or weeks to complete the upload. And for those who want to download from newsgroup, it will be pointless to download those news messages if the uploader didn't complete his/her upload, since you won't be able to re-create the file.

it is impossible to download ALL news, since it will be just too much (in term of hard disc space and time) and you won't even have time to recontruct them. Not to mention that you will need to montior more than 1 newsgroups. Just to download header of the news will be a big task enough unless you join some pay service to get the 'link file' (Guys, help me out there! I forgot the sites and the name of the file type which stores all the required information to get all news to re-create the file/program/games that you want to download without first getting the news headers...)

14 days seems to be a bit tight! You kind of force to download news even when they are not complete and hoping you are lucky enough that you find all the news that needed to re-create the file/program/games that you want....

Usually, people who upload will also upload the PAR / PAR2 files(which again, are break down into multiple news), so even you are missing some news, you still have chances to recover the missing part(s) from the PAR file. So if you check the newsgroup at least once a week or more often, you should be fine. (well, that assumed you get the complete PAR files.... before your ISP/news server remove them..)

When terabytes are arriving daily, it's impossible to cache every single posting there is :)
Maybe for select groups you can start a specific spool but you'd be running out of HD space FAST. I use usenetserver and easynews. I love the very quick easynews search engine. Real time saver.

Wow, thanks for the details, that actually answered a bunch of my questions. Do you remember the page with the headers that are searchable, it has a "z" somewhere in the name if that helps.

if you're looking at the $15US price range, newshosting.com is probably your best bet. unlimited downloading. 35 days retention and I've always been able to max out my 3 mbit connection. very rare downtimes.

if you're willing to pay $25 US, then giganews. although I hear they cap your bandwidth at 60 GB or something?

If you dont need to post and want the speed and reliablity of GIGANEWS then I reccomend PowerUsenet.Com ... they resell GIGANEWS and are $15/month but the only thing you can't do is post.

i used newshosting for years, i really liked the webnews.newshosting.com feature to search and grab files quickly. i recently took a month of usenetserver.com (they have global search which lets you build your own nzb files, not as good as webnews tho) so far i'd say newshosting had much better retention between the 2. tho i think usenetserver.com is pretty fast and newshosting doesn't give you webnews with the unlimited access like usenetserver does. the only reason why i stopped newshosting was i was on a 6 month /50 gig block and wanted to shop around the unlimited offerings.
