Hi, have been searching around for a new laptop and budget being what it is can't really spend more than $600 + taxes. I have noticed the Acer 3623 for $599 at a couple of places. As most people just want to get the most processor, ram, hard drive for the money. Other than the Acer is there anything else I should be looking at? Thanks for any help!

It completely depends on your intended use. You want to game/video editing (need good gpu).. or mainly business applications.. (excel/powerpoint/word pro).. or even less only student work (internet browsing/writing papers).
Tell us what you need it for.. and we'll be able to give you good solutions.

I intend to use it for just MS Office apps, nothing too intensive, surfing the net and the occasional movie. I work from home so would like to be able to work away from desk with wireless as well. I don't think I need a powerhouse for what I want it for, just not really sure what I can get for around that price.

For around $400 - $450.. you can get a Thinkpad P3, 1 Ghz, 20 - 30 Gb HDD, 256 Ram, and a DVDrom/burner.
That'll be more than enough for your needs. Where you can get this kind of beauty??.. Check the BST forum, or walk around the College/Spadina area.
A refurb thinkpad P3 will last you a lot longer than a cheap celeron. The only recommendation will be to max the Ram.

I suggest you save up another $100-150 and get one with a dvd burner, 512 mb ram and a decent harddrive then it will last you longer.

Guntai has it available to order too ... just not on their website.

Better to buy from a store that needs to order it in, because chances are you'll get a newer model at the same price like I did (no idea what model it is exactly since I haven't opened it yet :cheesygri ).
I guess many stores can order this if they use the same supplier. I wonder if Staples can order as well .. would love to save an additional 20% with my gift cards. :)
Personally I'd rather buy new than used.
