looking for a insert or direct vent?

direct vent.... i just bought a house and there is an awful-looking "decorative" (term used loosely) fireplace in a wall... I am looking to cover it with a mantle and direct vent gas fireplace or take it out altogether then put in the direct vent fireplace.....
