Scoop,
I was using your idea for just one magazine, it’s been working for almost 5 years, but i just did other channels.
For renewals it had been a pain for me; i probably used the wrong channel to do it ;)
So I got tired of this and started surfing for options here in Canada, it is discouraging not to find any, and well I came with this tread. It is even discouraging to know that this is the only option.
Anyways, your email make me realize that I don’t have any other way, so lets continue using it I will check your sites (I didn’t used them before), I hope is going to be better for me this time! ;)
Anyways, I don’t like to cheat the magazine publishers, but they look for it! ;)
Thanks man!

Thanks for the response, but meaning what exactly? I notice the dead links in the address change page here but presuming I can find a magazines change address page.. should be that easy no?

You realize that all they did was do what this thread does, right?
They sign up for free subscriptions in your name, and then change the address when appropriate.
(Except for the eBay seller that got me 3 years of WIRED for $10 all-in. God knows how he did that.)

Sorry but you are flat out wrong. I have purchased subscriptions for magazines that never show up on the free sites and for multiple years. i.e. PC Gamer 3 years for $8, Official Xbox Magazine 2 years for $10, US Weekly 3 years for $20.
They did not sign me up using free sites as I always purchased multiple years. It was some sort of discount re-seller agreement to bring up the subscription numbers so the magazines could charge more for ads.

Found a few mags on ebay.com that I was thinking of ordering - if I did and gave a US address should I be fine changing that address to my real Canadian address after a few weeks?
Muscle & Fitness, GQ, and Esquire are the mags that I'm looking to order.

Usually when I do this I will subscribe to the magazine I want using my parents address (they live in Indiana) then after a couple weeks I will change it to my Canadian address.
I have found a magazine that I want to subscribe to, the problem is they already have the same subscripion. If I subscribe using their address with my name, then change it to my address will I mess up thier own subscription? I'm just worried that both subs will end up coming here..

I don't think it'll make a difference - I'm sure lots of "Smiths" live in the same apt. buildings & therefore have the same addresses. Maybe just add "2nd floor".

Under ebay's new policy, magazine subscriptions are no longer permitted to be sold on the site.
Theres a way around it tho. I just bought a subscription from someone on there. Well, they werent selling subscriptions.. they were selling "MAGAZINE 4 YEARS GIFT CERTIFICATE". sneaky sneaky :) Paid on June 9th and got my first issue in the states already. August issue should be set up to come here.

No, it is not. I am asking this question because there are numerous other sellers on ebay who will only ship their items to CONFIRMED addresses when using Paypal. This means addresses linked to a credit card or a bank account.
One ebay posting states you provide the seller with your address and they handle everything else. If you provide them with an American address, instead of the Canadian address that is actually linked and CONFIRMED on your Paypal account, you could run into problems with the seller because they think it is a forgery / identity theft
The "gift certificate" posting states that the certificates will be physically mailed over to you to finish the process. However, the Seller only lists United States as options for mailing the gift certificates. In both cases, you may run into problems with the Ebay Seller.

You can always tell the seller this is a gift subscription and provide the "US Address" of your "friend" for the subscription.

I always buy Lucky magazine (for $5 an issue!) So I followed this thread's advice, and not being able to find it on ebay, I registered for it with an American address. (It was $15 for two years, as opposed to the Canadian price of $20 for one year). A few days after I ordered it I got an access code and changed my address.
It wasn't free, but paying $0.62 per issue is a lot better than $5!

Wow 71 pages and like 3 years old and this is the first time I'm seeing this thread!
I'm surprised it's so popular anyway... I mean people other than doctor's offices actually still get magazines mailed to them? LOL.
Back in the day I had subscriptions to like every major auto publication--Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor Trend, Automobile, not to mention the Canadian Wheels; plus Popular Science, Video, Stereo Review (which eventually turned into Sound & Vision which was also a separate publication). And others.
Today? I don't have a subscription to anything. With the advent and popularisation of the Internet, why bother? It's all online, for free (well other than your ISP bill)...

In the future when you do these deals it will never appear instantly. You just signed up with a third party (in this case mercury magazines) not the actual publisher. I would expect they send over the subscriptions weekly or bi-weekly and from there it takes a bit of time to appear in the publishers system.
Long story short, make yourself a note to check 2 weeks from today and weekly if it is not in the system by then.
Enjoy the free magazine

if i sign up for a magazine for a year... then wait the 4-6 weeks and do the address change, then i wait.... BUT THEN it pops up again for another free year, and i sign up AGAIN, then i'm putting my old US address in again (after already having done the address change thingy...). does that matter? will they then NOT send the magazine to my canadian address since i have reverted it back to the US one? so many questions about this process!!!

Have a bit of patience as Maxim will come up for free soon enough. If you dont want to wait then yes, what you suggest will work, but you wont be able to change right away as even if you sign up with the magazine itself it will take a few days at least for it to be put in the system.

Hi, can you please clarify what you mean by "change wasn't instant"?
FYI although not free, I've signed up with Popular Mechanics mag by calling Hearst Corp (parent company who also sells Good Housekeeping, Cosmo, etc) customer service.
Afterwards, I logged on my subscription account and noticed my address was misspelled so I corrected it. I notice the update was accepted but was not reflected in the delivery address. I assume this is normal? I have to wait a few weeks?
Thank you.

It wasn't instant, as in it didn't update the shipping address to my Canadian address the second I clicked on submit. There was a message saying that the change is pending verification, or something like that...
Which reminds me, I should check if it's updated now...:!:

It took about 4 days for my address change to be reflected in my account once it was submitted. In the interim, there was a note on file indicating that an address change had been submitted, and was pending. I should be getting the December issue in the mail when it is shipped.

Anyone tried registering a subscription with Maxim then changing your address to a Canadian one?
Reason Im asking is I want to subscribe, its $27.94 for 2 years in Canada but only $17.00 in the US.
So I was thinking of registering then changing my address right away on their login section:

Hi, I have a similar question about buying the Entertainment magazine for $10 a year (US) instead of $73 (Cnd).
I already subscribe to EW and have done so for about 4 years. I was wondering since I'm already in their system, will ordering it with a US address and then trying to change it work in my case? I'd probably go for the 3 year subscription option.
Any feedback much appreciated.
Thanks

I posted the original deal.
I think in terms of stacking your subscriptions, you would have to call the 1-800 number.
Explain that a relative gave you a subscription at another address (not knowing you had (cough cough) moved to Canada and could they please combine the years of both subscriptions.
Don't assume the worst, most of the time the customer service people are very friendly. I once spoke to one that was in Dallas and started asking me lots of questions about Canada.
And if it's your name on the credit card and your name on the subscription, just say it's a relative with the same name.
I don't think they want to lose a customer over a billing issue. And if it doesn't work, tell them you are not satisfied and try to politely talk to a manager.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I know this has probably been asked before but I am unable to locate the post.
I used a "fake" US address to order magazines through Amazon, and I know it will take some time before it's processed. However, when I checked one of the magazine sites, Amazon, it says I need to enter information from the mailing label, which I of course will never receive.
How do I get my magazine account number without having received a hard copy of the magazine? Will it be emailed to me once processed?
Thanks for the help, this is a great thread and I really hope it works out!

You can order magazines from Amazon.com with a US address. Then wait until the account shows up on the magazine's customer service website. Then change it there. Don't change it on Amazon.com while your subscription is being processed or you'll risk getting it canceled.

Its not a trading forum - can we keep these requests elsewhere. And if you dont want a magazine you got for free why not just cancel it? Popular Science hasnt been offered for free so I dont know why anyone would want to trade it for a publication that has been available for free many times.

Just go to the Maxim.com website. There will be a link near the bottom for Subscription Customer Service. I'm at work and that site is blocked, so I can't get the exact URL.

I just moved to Surrey, BC after ten years of living in the States and I had free subscriptions with Allure, Forbes, Fortune, and Entertainment Weekly. When I moved here I went on the customer service page for the magazines and changed my address and the magazines are currently being delivered.
Granted I didn't sign up using a false U.S. address because I was actually living there, but the process is the same and it should work the same as my subscriptions did.

Thanks HowEver,
I realised that this thread was 79 pages long and I'm well aware that magazines are forwarded to Canada, I don't think my post indicated otherwise.
As you can see from the post directly above mine on the same day I posted, many people are asking about which specific magazines are eligible to be forwarded in the free subscription offer. I was simply answering that question by posting the free magazines that I had forwarded, because it is still quite on topic.

If you are having problems logging in to change your address, make sure you have the address right. I was having problems logging in for a number of magazines that I subscribed to. I was entering everything just as I had signed up and still couldn't get in. I keep a file with all my subscriptions, when I signed up and what address I used etc so I know I was entering the same info. It turns I had the Zip Code wrong for the address I was using. The magazine sites had corrected the Zip which is why I couldn't log in with the info that I had signed up with. If you can't get in, check the Zip Code.

it just means that their address system uses a diff name for your city in reference to your postal code. example....for me, I normally put DDO for my city, but I got the same error as you and had to put dollard instead. Try a diff name/spelling if any exist.

Did anyone have troubles changing their address with Forbes?
I can select Alberta and Canada as my province;country, but when I type in my postal code in the "postal code" field.. it gives me a "Please enter a valid zip or postal code" message.
I have tried entering the postal code with and without a space between the first three characters.
I have tried entering different addresses in my city.
If I type my postal code in the zip field, the process will go through, but it changes the country from Canada, to the United States.

Subbed to Forbes last week and managed to do an address change to Canada online today.
I am experiencing a few problems with other mags that I subscribed to in early January.
CFO mag requires an account number, there is no way to change the address online without the account number.
Maxim & Esquire allow you to use your address and e-mail to make an address change, but the system cannot find my account.
I decided to e-mail all three mags to request my account number. All 3 have responded by asking me for my new address and they will make the change for me. They don't seem to want to provide my account number. I am certain that if I provide them a Canadian address they will not proceed with the subscription.
Any other ideas to obtain my account numbers on line?

Just ordered a few mags yesterday for my girlfriend and I. I got an email from Amazon saying that one had been registered so thought I would try to change the address on all of them for the heck of it. It looks like 3 of the 4 address changes were accepted after only 24 hours or so.....I believe I read somewhere to be careful as Amazon might cancel the order, but all of the address changes were made on the actual magazine sites change address forms, so keeping fingers crossed I'm safe!!
The 3 that let me change are:
Glamour
Food Network Magazine
Wired
Maxim could not fine my information yet however.

Do a google search for "woman's shelter Buffalo" or something similar. At least that way if you don't have a chance to change the address before the first issue goes out you know it's going to a place that they can likely use the magazine.

Nope. If you change the address soon enough, they'll just get sample magazines. The couple we sold the house to rent it out now (millitary) so different names won't mean much. They won't deliver other mail, but magazines will go through. The zip code is the same for the whole town. You can always use another street number on the same street. Another note, anyone seen organic gardening or other gardening mags recently. I used to have 20 plus free mags a month, I have a list of about 6 favourites now.

Has anyone had any experience subscribing to Vogue? It's $3 cheaper via directly from them ($15 versus $18 via Amazon), but they have fine print stating that if you don't write a letter to them within 60 days of the next year, you authorize them to resubscribe you for another year, at the rate that they determine.
Would it just be smarter to pay the extra $3 to perhaps ensure against such a problem?

Hi,
I just ordered Oxygen magazine through their website for $20. The U.S. cost is cheaper than any Canadian magazine site that I could find.
I used my real name and a U.S. address/zip code.
I received this message after I sent in my subscription: "Please allow up to 6 weeks for delivery of your first issue."
I have been reading that it takes about 2-4 weeks before you can change the address to your home address.
So my question is, do I wait 2-4 weeks from today before I go into Oxygen's website to change the address to my Canadian one?
I'm assuming that I would go to "Contact Us" and fill out the information regarding my change of address in this section?
This is the message below the Contact US section, "Use this form to contact the editors or tell us about your ordering experience. For the fastest replies to your questions, please select the correct department. In order to provide you with the best service, please provide as much information as possible regarding your issue."
It then asks for my name, e-mail address and problem/question. Do I go to this section for address change or is there another site that I should be using?
Thanks for your help. : )

Just a note to anybody wanting to try it out with Runner's World, they won't switch the sub to a Canadian address (luckily mine is going to a sister in Michigan I see regularly). Men's Health off their website is $30 for 2 years, whereas off of Amazon it's $40. Just wondering, if I purchase it off of their website, I'll still be able to change it to a Canadian address, correct?
(Not the best price, but still better than what I'm currently paying $30/year)

Sometimes the subscription doesn't start for several months. log in to your account, and you will see the date of delivery for your first mag. if you're missing one of them, click on 'missed issue' and notify them directly.
I've received all of the ones for which i've applied (at least 20?). Not sure if my experience is unique though. a few times i've had to contact the magazines directly to get my account number, but with a little elbow grease i've always been successful. good luck!

Over the past couple of months, I have subscribed to the following Magazines:
Maxim
Sportsfishing
Entertainment Weekly
OK Magazine
Redbook
Travel and Leisure
Rolling Stone
Men's Journal
National Geographic Traveler
Outdoor Photography
I have been able to change the address for all of them. Usually within a week or two.
Total cost for all the magazines was about $35 for the year (I received some of them for only $2 just for filling out a satisfaction survey from something my wife purchased).
So far I have received issues from Maxim, Sportsfishing and Entertainment Weekly. The others should be arriving soon since they had later dates of commencement.
Thanks to OP who first brought this to our attention!

I just tried to do this with the O magazine as my acct # just showed up on their customer service link.
I changed the address to a Canadian address but when I went back into my account, it stilled showed the old US address.
Is there normally a delay before the address change 'takes effect'?
Thanks

Also, I read about 25 pages of stuff and found it confusing...I tried to get a free subscription to OK magazine but was not successful...if someone could help me with the Industry, Job category and title etc. that would be a huge help!

So what do you do when the subscriptions expire? Do you have to renew them at the Canadian rate, or do you let them lapse and create new subscriptions in the same way?
You can renew them at the Canadian rate if you choose. I usually look for another free one or cheap one and do the switch again. If its free and I come across it I usually sign up and the tend to let them stack. At one point I had about 6 years of free maxim stacked up. If its not free I wait till my subscription is close to expiring and then look for another cheap one to buy. Once you change the address to Canada and there is overlap you will either get two issues or they will automatically stack them. If you are getting two issues the magazines are generally very good about changing it to stack onto the end of your current subscription, and will often give you an issue or two free to compensate for the month or two you received two.

Anyone have address change for Car&Driver? I just tried accessing my account and it didn't work.
When I tried to access the account, I used the my Road&Track account number on Car and Driver's CSR website. Surprisingly I logged into another person's account who's located in South Dakota. No I didn't change that person's address to my own.

So, every link for Free subscription of Maxim would also allow you to stack them up? Should we put the same US address when we subscribe for the 2nd/3rd time? Do we need to change to Canadian address on our 2nd/3rd subscriptions?
Would really appreciate it if you could share the info. Thanks buddy ! :)

Yeah once your info is in their system, you can keep signing up and it'll stack. Just signup with the same american addy and email info. They'll automatically change it you canadian addy for you once they receive it so you only have to change your info the initial time when your first signed up :)

Guys, how do I renew Cosmo? I got it for my sister last year for $5, but didn't stack it. It's $12 on Amazon now, but how do I get it to renew under her Cosmo account? I don't want double issues going to her.

Once you have signed up for your free mag through rewards gold your done with them. To change your address you go to the publishers website, if your case would be playboy ( https://w1.buysub.com/pubs/PY/PLY/PLY_ComboEntryForm.jsp?cds_page_id=1747&cds_mag_code=PLY&id=1291830404342&lsid=33421146443030915&vid=1 ) Log in with the name you used and your American address, then update email and change the mailing address to your Canadian one.

Question:
So I finally got around to trying out this change address business. I successfully completed a couple offers for Maxim and to my surprise I was able to access my account on their site a just week later so I changed the address to my Canadian one successfully. I kept checking in every couple days to see if the 2nd offer went through but then one day it simply stopped working. No "couldn't access account" message, just nothing happens anymore when I try to log in (with email and ZIP code). The page appears to start loading and then returns to the same state.
Any ideas or similar experiences? Should I have waited longer before changing the address, or did the 2nd offer kick in and cause the mess up? If I do nothing will it still come in 6-8 weeks since I did change it successfully?
Any thoughts appreciated :)

Nah not yet, I figured I'd wait a few weeks first and maybe it will have fixed itself before I need to, but I plan to if the problem persists. I was just worried I screwed something up in the process. Thanks for the reply

Parents is $1 per year at Barnes & Noble with coupon code K9B9J4H

Most of the time you can use your name and mailing info to change your address
worst case you can always try to email the mag. customer service and they will do it for you

I went to the Runner's World website and tried to do an address change from my US to Cdn address.
For some reason, it showed the correct Cdn address but showed US instead of Canada.
I tried it again and it still wouldn't change.
So I called their customer service to try and change it.
I was informed that if I change it to Canada, I will be charged an additional postage charge.
Needless to say, I won't be bothering to change it...

When you subscribe for free magazines with TradePub.com, does it regularly reject your subscriptions? I have subscribed for boutique DESIGN, BizBash Miami/South Florida, BizBash Toronto, and HA+D (Hospitality Architecture + Design). All these were rejected. I have been following the method described earlier in this thread, i.e. subscribe with an US address, so I'm not sure if it's because of my "address" that was rejected or some other reason. Anyone else have similar experiences with TradePub.com?

Hi,
I currently have Cosmopolitan , Redbook and Good Housekeeping all from Hearst Magazines and I sucessfully changed them to Canada.
My Question is: They are due to expire in a few months, What is the best method to renew them, right now they offered me to renew but at Canadian rates being that my address is in Canada (apx 15-20 per year). in the US I can pay 5-10 per year. HOw do I take advantage of the US rates again.
Do I temporarily change my address back to US and then renew, or do I just purchase more subscriptions in the US and just give the same email address and it will automatically link it to my existing account and continue to canada?.
I would appreciate some input.
Thanks in advance

The problem I have is I would like to change the address to 3 different CDN addresses.. (ie 2 to one place, 2 to another, etc for gifts)
Hearst's website seems to change all mags addresses at the same time to only 1 address... Any work around this before calling??? Thanks!

Yes you order using any valid US address (ie a hotel, shelter, etc.) and then typically about 4-6 weeks later you login to the publishers web site using the address information you originally ordered from and change your address. I recommend only calling as a last resort so that you don't alert them to what people are doing.

They aren't supposed to be. The other one is just supposed to be people reporting the free magazines they find and then this one is the how to part of it... and where people should be asking for help. And personally I don't want them merged.

They aren't supposed to be. The other one is just supposed to be people reporting the free magazines they find and then this one is the how to part of it... and where people should be asking for help. And personally I don't want them merged.
Ah, got it. Thanks for the clarification!

I am seeing from the posts here that the recommendation is to change to your Canadian address after about 4 weeks. I was able to log into my Maxim account today and changed the address. The problem is, it's been less than a month since I had subscribed. I also had to adjust the spelling on my name as I had a typo that I didn't notice when I first registered. Any expert who had done this change to a Canadian address know if it will cause problems with my getting the magazine sent to my home?

I don't understand what the problem is...but no, you did everything right. It should be on the way in a month.

Has anyone ever purchased a subscription through Amazon.com and then changed their address? I want to subscribe to Racer Magazine and in the US a one year subscription costs $49.95 but in Canada it is $79.95 plus GST. If I buy through Amazon and then change my address on Racer's site, does that work or will I be charged the Canadian price?

Hello,
First time trying to order magazine from the US and have a question...
I'm using the discountmags.com website and in the checkout section... The first page is wanting Billing Information. Do I put the US address in this section? Or can I put my Canadian billing info but then put the US address for the delivery section?
Thanks for your help!

Okay so I'm completely new to this...
So when I sign up for one of these, example I found on on Tanga, its not free but its pretty close and I want to get it. When on Tanga I use a US address correct? and then when I want to change my address do I sign back into Tanga to change it or to the actual magazine page? And if I sign into the magazine page, do I have a login from when I sign up through tanga?

You have to change your address from the magazine page. Most magazines (if not all) allow you to login using the address that you subscribed with. Just have to go to the customer service page for that magazine. Just keep in mind that it can take some time from when you subscribe to when you can change the address.

Thank-You so much :) Just signed up for two magazines through Tanga, I hope this works!

if you are using a canadian credit card you have to use your canadian billing info. If they dont accept it you can call them and say its a gift subscription fro someone int he states, and you are using your cdn card to pay.
I think you can use paypal with discount mags - probably your best bet.

I have been watching this thread and have decided to give it a try. Ordered 5 mags from Amazon.com. During checkout I created a new ship to address in the US, using a valid men's shelter address in case it doesn't work. This way at least someone will get some enjoyment out of the subscriptions.
3 Mags from Hearst, 1 from Bonnier, 1 from Future.
I will let you know how it goes.

I woke up this morning and found emails from Amazon advising my orders had been processed for all 5 Mags. I was able to change address at 4 out of 5 mags. I will try the last mag again in a week.

This sounds great but I'm trying to subscribe to Better Homes and Gardens in BestDealMagazines and when I get to the billing info it only accepts a US address. Can I use the same US address for the billing as for the shipping even though I'm paying with a Canadian credit card? Also do I have to create an account or can I subscribe anonymously. Thanks.

Maxim is one of the easiest magazines to get for free and it's always being offered - it would be a shame if you paid for it!

I was just introduced to this site and think it is great. I just used a link to subscribe for Maxim. I will how long should I wait to change the address? Does anyone have a link for some fitness mags or financial ones? I went to the rewardsgold link but it keeps asking for me to refer a friend and not sure I want to give my friends email address out. Where can I get a list of random people in the states emails and addresses?
Thanx

With Maxim, I only had to wait about three weeks, maybe four (if I recall correctly), before I could log in successfully and change my address. With Rewardsgold, what I do is use a couple of extra Gmail e-mail addresses I have so I don't bug anyone.

I just subscribed to Taste of Home as well. I couldn't select a province also. I clicked on the blue button on the address change page to chat with customer service. I explained the problem and she asked for my new address and changed the address for me.
To confirm the change, you have to logout of the account and then logon again (remember to record your acc# - easiest way to logon again) to see that the address change is done.
I haven't sub'ed to Family Handyman so can't help there other than to suggest you chat, call or email them...

I had the same problem for Family Handyman. I wrote to the customer service department and they corrected the situation. Since then I have been receiving my mags.

Im not sure what you refer to but there is a thread where all the free mags are posted. Normally theres one or two everyweek. This thread is on how to make it free. Basically register with an american address. Wait a few weeks4-6 then log into the mags site and do a change of address to your address to canada. It works. I already receive 2-3 free mags so try it, hope this was what you were looking for
BTW I have to mention that theres 2 mags I couldnt change its probably must call in to be able to do it but I didnt bother. Lots do though

for those of you have not tried rewardsgold, here's what you need to know. You have to be patient, I registered on April 28th, and I did not receive their next email until May 21st.
That's like almost a month long, I don't usually check my inbox too frequently, good thing I caught it :D
if you worry about putting your friends' emails as referrals, just put any make-up emails, doesn't need to be valid emails. Hope this helps to anyone who hasn't tried rewardsgold :)
