Not a hot deal for all, but, if you have ever slept on a heavenly bed from one of these hotels then you know how amazing they are - made by Simmons exclusively for this hotel chain. These never go on sale so I purchased a Queen mattress for $975-$195 = $780USD + no charge for shipping (and they ship to Canada!)

That's odd, because on their website it states:
CAN ORDERS BE SHIPPED TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES?
We regret that we're currently unable to ship to destinations outside the United States and its territories.
and
Most purchases are shipped from our warehouse in Delaware, to arrive within five business days from receipt of your order.
plus it's not possible to enter a Canadian billing or shipping address when ordering online...
Please let us know if/when you get your mattress and if you got dinged for duties/taxes. My understanding is that in the States, 1-800-Mattress delivers their mattresses.
Oh, and the 20% off was around during December and also again in February.

I don't quite see where you got that from. Here is what is said on their Customer Service page:
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
To ship orders outside of the USA the following rates apply:
up to $100.00 $ 50.00
$100.01 to $250.00 $100.00
$250.01 to $500.00 $150.00
Over $500.01 $250.00
Orders that are shipped to countries outside of the U.S. may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country. All taxes, duties and fees are in addition to the international shipping charge and are the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
WHAT SHIPPING CHARGES APPLY TO MATTRESSES & BOXSPRINGS?
Delivery fee is included in the cost of the mattress.
Seems free to me :). Even at $250 shipping + taxes this is not a bad deal, if you look around for a plush pillow top sealy mattress with pocket coils (825 of them), you'll be hard pressed to break 1200 bucks + taxes.

Pillow Top on a Pocket Coil is TERRIBLE!
You don't want to be seperated from the foundation, the pillow top negates alot of the benifits of the pocket coils!

I am looking for a new mattress set. But i really dont have an idea what separates a good mattress from a bad one.
So why would pillow top be bad with pocket coil? what is a pocket coil?

That's a great deal if the shipping is free.
Out of all the hotel beds, the Heavenly Beds are my favorite. Of course you have to get the feather pillows and duva.

Never slept on this bed before. Can someone mind telling me what is a heavenly bed? Checking the link... so is it the W bed, feather bed, feather mattress topper, and bed protector all combined? So much feathers...
I have an obus bed, can i just add the feather bed and protector and get a similar feeling? :-P

It also says duties and taxes. that could kill this deal? Does anyone know how much these duties would be (if any)?

You can see/touch/feel/try and buy the 'Heavenly Bed' mattress at Sleep Country. I think it's either a Sealy or Simmons. The salesperson will be glad to point you to it.
I just recently went through the ordeal of buying a new mattress. Be forewarned, if you're middle aged, it's good to buy from places that allows exchanges. You absolutely cannot tell from lying on one in the showroom whether the mattress will suit you.
I purchased a pocket coil Simmons with pillowtop from Sears, and it turned out to be too firm. Woke up with aches everyday until the minimum trial period expired and got a refund from Sears. Only Sears and Costco offers refunds on mattresses that I'm aware of. Most places offer replacements.
I ended up with with the Tempurpedic from Kaplans. Cost a pretty penny, but I couldn't be happier. I fall into a coma every night. Tempurpedic prices are pretty much fixed everywhere, but Kaplans offers no tax plus two free Tempur pillows.

Maybe that doesn't compare but I tried the costco memory foam ones and after 6 months. At first it was really nice but after about 6 months, it became ubearable :( I exchanged twice before giving up...
Is that tempurpedic the same kind of stuff?

Tempurpedic is the same kind of stuff but of much better quality... meaning denser foam.
I saw in a Sears flyer a new Tempurpedic line... it's not just thicker, but actually denser. Whereas the Tempurs sold at bed stores are about 5.4 (lbs/ft3 or something like that), I think this one is around 7! And it costs a pretty penny more as well.
I wish that there is a universal "excellent" bed instead of "it depends on the type of way you sleep" bed.
BTW, is the Kaplan "no-tax, free pillows" promotion for a limited time (and if so, do you know when it expires?) or is it ongoing (is there a website/phone number?)? Also, I read that with Tempur mattresses and pillows, it's either or but not both at the same time. That is, if you have the Tempur mattress, the Tempur pillows will not make it better and may in fact make it worse. Better to use the Tempur pillows on a non-memory foam bed.
Any confirmation on what I've written is welcome.

I don't track Kaplans promotions, but that was the deal my friend got. I went there months after the promotion was over, but convinced the salesperson to give me deal. As with most furniture shops, there is always some give.

Sleep country has the simmons 825 pocket coil mattress on sale for $1385 thats cheaper than 'pillow top' heavenly bed (slightly more than 'plush top') while manufacturer is same.
Also sleep country has free shipping and 60 day exchange (for $35 fee).
Not sure what the difference between plush and pillow top is but this looks like a good deal!
