I've been reading a bunch of threads about notebook coolers - but they're all from 2005 (middle of the year) ... I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get one now?

Specifically for my 710m - I will be using this mainly as a desktop & occasional travel.

I've already read that the air flow direction is very important - as most coolers go in the opposite direction.

so any recommendations + where to get it would be appreciated. Thanks!!!!

I wouldn't bother with a cooler. I'd get this: the iLap for the 12" powerbook. Should fit the Dell 710m, and is super comfortable.

A cooler may be just a waste unless you have a gaming laptop or intend to do some heavy duty number crunching. Do you really want to lug around something that adds 50% more weight to your small 710?

I just bought a stiff dining table placemat that I use when I want to keep the heat away from my legs.

well ... I figured, I would just leave the cooler on my desk at home - since the lappy will likely be there about 70% of the time ... - connected to an external LCD & KB+Mouse.

when travelling, I likely wouldn't take it with me.

keep the ideas coming ... but mor eimportantly, where to get it! :D

1) Your laptop doesn't need "cooling"; i.e. it runs within specs, but is too hot for your legs. So, buying a "cooler" isn't necessary. You need a stand or something like that.
2) Most notebook coolers are designed for 14-15 inch laptops. If you want a 12" version, you're SOL.

Answer: buy the 12" iLap. Well designed; aluminum materials dissipates heat without using a USB port or plugging anything in; really comfortable and usable on a lap or a desk. Cons: expensive.

You can buy it from Carbon Computing and CSC in Toronto.
