View Full Version : Annotating in Outlook Express?

I use Outlook Express as my main e-mail client at work and at home... Typically, I have a bunch of e-mails sitting in my Inbox that are essentially my "to do" pile -- things which need action or a reply.

What I would like to be able to do is to add a note for each message, and have that note appear on the list of messages, alongside sender name, subject, receive date, etc. But Outlook Express doesn't have this functionality.

There's an e-mail client called PocoMail that essentially has this feature (http://www.pocomail.com/help/viewing.html#annotating)... But I don't want to switch from Outlook Express.

Can anyone suggest a way to accomplish what I'm looking for? If there's any solution out there, it'll likely be some utility program or an Outlook Express add-on... I'm willing to pay for something that works well.

Just checking... Outlook isn't an option for you?

It's an option for work, but not for home... While I'll pay for software, I can't really justify the cost of Outlook. :)

Why, does Outlook have this option?

Yeah, Outlook let's you create user-defined fields and to display and sort by that field.

Okay, I added the user-defined field in the view for listing messages, but how do I edit the contents of that field for a particular message? :?

Whoops, sorry!

I was going to say, you need to add the field to the default form for e-mails... but turns out you can only add it to the compose form, not the read form (at least not as an editable field), so that's no use to you. Sorry!

Bump. I'm still hoping to do something like this. Hopefully in Outlook Express, but I might be willing to switch to Outlook. As a last resort, I guess I could go to PocoMail.

This will help explain what I want (look for the bright red boxed area):
