http://www.netfirms.ca/hub then click on the "Looking for a $9.95 .ca domain name?" image at the top right. Never used Netfirms as a domain registrar but thats the lowest price for a .ca domain I've seen.

True, however that price is in USD and you cannot register any .ca domains, only .com, .net etc. Still a very awesome deal, good find.

you could register .ca domain names with max and US is almost equivalent to Canadian dollar nowadays

I think the $2.95 (US) IPower deal is better :->
It's not .ca.. but does that really matter?

Yes, it does matter

.ca is our national domain

Yes, it does matter. .ca, as well as most country domains, are generally more expensive than your typical TLD.

Also, unless you get www.obscureashellandnoonewillfinditbutyou.com, a lot more .ca domains will be available.

Just registered my family name in order to make a site for my family to post pictures, talk on a message board, and post upcoming news and events. Pretty smooth transaction so far - I may switch my other site over to them if things go well (which I guess is one of the ideas behind them doing a deal like this).

It's $1.6 more :) $10.45 + 7% GST = 11.18
But the $8.95 promo from Hub applies to new account only
NetFirm normaly charge $10.65 w/tax

Cold. I just ordered a .ca, and NetFirms suck.

If you use their 25mb storage that comes with the domain, there are ads. ( www.hidethelinux.ca )

If you redirect it to another domain, there is NO option to cloak/mask the domain.

This is a good deal. I will probably get one but the ipower deals is still better because you can get 3 for the price 1. I am for .ca domain for the Canadian Pride. It is hard to get the domain with .com

Thanks

its always the fine print in these deals that should be watched for.
Like are you locked in for the next year at a higher rate if you want to renew? (and most people do want to keep the name they've picked)
Some places dont charge alot for transfering your name/site to their serivce but to transfer out to another company -thats where they really charge, and they hide those fee's pretty good.
Does anyone have any long term experience with these companys ie 3+ yrs with maybe a transfer or 2 completed. Or recommend a company that charges abit more for better options?
Thanks alot

For .ca domains I use www.10dollar.ca

10dollar.ca sound better than netfirm... url cloaking... !

I found netfirm on google:
http://www.netfirms.ca/domain-names/b/131/?b=131&gclid=CK6X6-H_mIUCFQfFPgodHw0oIA

Agreed. I've been told that domainsatcost.ca is good however don't have any answers to the questions you've asked and with a name like "domains at cost" I find myself wondering where the hidden catch is since they gotta make money some how.

and add to your list of concerns (along with the person wondering about URL cloaking to another domain) I've been wondering if they'll charge charge if you wanna do subdomains on your domain - and if so how much.

I'm looking to register a .ca domain name because the .com domain I want is taken..

Netfirms.ca $9.58 a year is not bad
but I want cheaper hosting..Like $3-$4 a month.

Can I register a .ca domain with netfirms.ca and use godaddy.com to host my site? How do I do that?
Any other good hosting sites (that can host a .ca domain) out there that charge $3-$4 a month?

All you have to do is change the nameservers of your domain on Netfirms to the nameservers supplied by your host. I think Netfirms gives you free access to change/modify the nameservers.

I use Dreamhost.com and right now they have that 777 deal. (I think its still going on). It comes out to about $10-$11 for a year of hosting and you get a free domain name too (com, net, org, etc...), and you get 1TB of bandwidth and like 20GB of space if I remembered correctly.

if you wanted to take some classes (nights/weekends) to get right into the whole building a website and e-commerce boom, any suggestions out there for schools and such? Any web masters on RFD's?
thanks

oop's not sure if this is highjacking

Thanks, I might be interested in this. For the 777 deal, is it $10-$11 for the 1st year only? or is it every year so you can renew your domain/hosting for the 2nd year for $10-$11 too?

Also, .ca's a fcuked up..
I wanted to register (my last name).ca - but it wouldn't let me.. not because someone else had registered it, but because someone had registered (my last name).sk.ca - which for some stupid reason means I can't register the name I wanted..

It's been like that for a while. However, though it should have happened already, *.ca domains with a *.province.ca domain already registered will be released at some point for anyone to register.

Try a different registrar, as this was have already supposed to have happened, though I've since long deleted my CIRA email about it.

The truth is: you CAN register a 2nd level .ca domain (e.g. your-last-name.ca) WITH PERMISSION from the registrant of your-last-name.sk.ca.

Does anyone have a link to a Netfirm hosted site. I want to have a look at the advertising. If it not too bad the MAX deal sounds pretty good.

I looked throught the "small print" for info on renewals and I can only find this:

16. Renewal - upon expiration, this Agreement will renew automatically
for the same duration as previously agreed to, unless you advise NETFIRMS™
otherwise prior to said expiration. Renewal fees must be received by
NETFIRMS™ within 15 (fifteen) days of said expiration, failing which YOUR
SITE and e-mail account(s) will be placed on accounting hold. If the renewal
fees are not received within 90 (ninety) days of expiration, all SITE and
e-mail content will be deleted and removed from NETFIRMS™ servers without
any compensation or notice to YOU. NETFIRMS™ reserves the right to not
automatically renew any service plan.

and

9. RENEWAL.
YOU agree that WE will, on your behalf, take all required steps to
automatically renew YOUR domain name registration on a yearly basis, and
that YOU will be solely responsible for all costs in so doing. YOU undertake to
indemnify
Netfirms, Inc. for any expenses it incurs in such renewals.
YOU further designate Netfirms, Inc. to act on your behalf and as your
domain name temporary administrative contact when required, and agree that

WE may take all steps necessary to ensure both renewal and transfer of the subject
domain name to Netfirms, Inc. as the registrar of record.

So as long as you remember to tell them you do not want to renew, it should be good. I'll just give them a credit card that expires before the end of the term.

PITA, if you want to keep your domain for more than a year though.
