From using several brands of Cordless phones in the last few years, i will only use a panasonic for now on.

I wouldnt even touch this Motorola even if it was $0.19 :D

I agree, Panasonic is the best. I have wasted lots of $$ on GE, VTech and other brands but Panasonic is the only one that lasts over 2 years.

What type of battery comes with this? NiMh? Anyone know? I have really poor quality phones that need to go back to Zellers as the battery isn't NiMh and they constantly go 'dead.'

ya but what exactly is the point? unless you enjoy making trip after trip here and there buying new phones here and there.

Buy a panasonic and it will last years, without any hassles or having to use them as disposable trash.

I dont know about you, I buy my stuff for it to last, not so I have to run out again in 2 weeks or 2 months and buy another one.

This thing does suck...

Yes its 5.8GHz but it doesnt have any frequency hopping spread spectrum technology, so if someone else is using the channel, your gonna get interfered with very easily.

5.8 GHz phones all suck IMO. 900 MHz is the way to go.

You get what you pay for. Panasonic is more expensive but miles above this one.

I was shopping for 5.8 GHz phones a few months back. I did all sorts of research reading reviews and stuff (like any good RFDer :cheesygri ).

I wanted something small and not too bulky but I also wanted something that had good reception and good battery life. After lots of reading, I read bad reviews about the Motorola cordless 5.8, mostly about the batteries giving out. I think it's a Ni-Cd. Also read about lots of people getting lemons, so it's a hit and miss sort of deal.

wi-fitechnology reviews (http://www.wi-fitechnology.com/Wi-Fi-Products-B0002EYR1C.html)

Amazon Reviews (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002EYR1C/104-3551578-5924759?v=glance&n=172282)

In the end I bought a panasonic 5.8, and don't regret it. Works great where my 2.8 Ghz Uniden didn't.

The Motorola was more expensive than 20$ back when I was looking at it, I think 70$ or so.

For 20$, i'd give it a shot. Throw in the 6.99$ for the protection plan so if it breaks, you get over the counter replacement!

good deal bc

Why do people bother buying phones with NiCad batteries? It blows me away that these batteries are even still used in production? Unless you dont mind having to drain your battery every single time before charging. Or wait you really dont have to, put it on the charger even once without killing it and it creates a memory effect, killing the life of it and having to buy a new one.

Spend the extra money and buy what I have. You get what you pay for. No other brand even compares to Panasonic for home phones. There is a reason why they are able to charge a premium and still sell.

posted as a deal on www.redflagdeals.com (the main website, not the forums).

Regarding some comments in this thread commenting on the crappiness of anything non-Panasonic, I currently own 2 900MHz VTech's (with DSS) and a multi-handset 2.4GHz Motorola system (with DSS, answering system, also avoids wireless channels). Both have been performing flawlessly and keep working, year after year. No, it didn't take me 3 tries / exchanges to get a phone that works, they all worked fine out of the box. And prices varied from 19.99-69.99.

So how about you keep an open mind? or at least try to let others keep an open mind?

I keep hearing that Panasonic is the way to go, but I've have had my XSCargo 2 handset 2.4Ghz DSS Phonemate refurbs for 4.5-years without a single problem.

I've got my wireless network, wireless home security system and baby monitor as well all on 2.4Ghz and not a single probem. The only problem I have is my Gyration RF wireless mouse and keyboard interfering with the baby monitor when surfing on the HTPC at night.

I guess for some it is hit and miss.

i can kill the battery very easily in 2 years cause it's NiCD so in 2 years will be getting a new phone

good luck, cause NiCad wont last you any longer than the first time you fail to drain it completely before throwing it on the charger. NiCad is absolute junk. Having to wait for the battery to die before charging, totally defeats the purpose of even having a cordless phone.

Its nice being able to throw my phones on the charger, whenever im out of the house or just when I want to, 5 times a day or 60 times a day after every call and keep it topped up. And it dont create any memory effect. With NiMH you never have to worry about the phone dying on you ever, cause you can charge it as many times as you like and it wont matter.

Good luck doing that with Ni-Cad. By the end of the day you battery will boost an amazing 5mins talk time. :D

Your NiCad wont last you past the first week unless you plan on killing the battery every single time - which I cant see how anyone would. Have fun going through batteries, best to buy them in bulk! ;) Youre going to spend more on junk batteries than on a good Panasonic phone. Trust me, NiCad will not last 2yrs (not even close)....well it'll still work, if you dont mind 30 second talk time on it. This is coming from a user who used to always buy NiCad phones. But hey, dont say I didnt tell you so ;)

oh get serious... you make it sound like it'll be the end of the world when the battery dies.
Yes, it will eventually die. Maybe it'll take less than 2 years, but it will definitely not be after the first charge.
And for the diy'ers, it would be relatively easy to construct a NiMH battery back to replace it (the $19.99 price makes it esp. attractive for little projects).

Why dont you google up Nicad vs NiMH batteries and see what you get. Go buy one right now, bring it home..charge it 12 hours, condition it 3 times so you know you are getting the max. battery life out of it. Then use it for a couple calls, throw it on the charger. Post back with your results.

Ive been in the cell phone telecommunications industry for over 8 years now. Trust me, I have taken my time learning the aspects of each and every type of battery. There is a reason why these phones are cheap.

Sure, you can definitely install a NiMH battery in it, but why would you want to? The charging base is not made to charge and run NiMH batteries, therefore you will not get the max potential out of that new NiMH battery you just blew $40 on.
