Am I looking at windows?
Usually built in soundcards are not great.

What are you going to use it for? Music or just games?

I would recommend using what you have right now and see if you like it. If the sound is crap, consider an add-in card. Although, onboard sound tends to be crappy. You may want to google your current card and see if there are some reviews.

I have the Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA card in my Dell Latitude D610. I swear by that card. The sound quality is far superior to anything integrated you'll ever see on a laptop.

Plus when I go to my cottage, I can power up my 5.1 system there just like a desktop! :)

If you're looking strictly for audio quality overall, consider the Echo Indigo IO (http://www.echoaudio.com/Products/CardBus/IndigoIO/index.php).
