Hey guys

I read on this board that Civic 2006 is not as good a model, is that true?

Cuz I was gonna buy a new Civic until I read that.

I've read mostly good things about it.

I definitely think Honda is slightly overrated though. It has a great name, but is starting to slack off.
Toyota and Hyundai are where it's at right now for economy cars.
Those things are rock solid and seem to last forever.

All models of the 2006 Civic are very good buys. I think numerous magazines and stuff have chosen the entire line to be the economy car of the year. If you like what you see in the Civic, there is no reason not to buy one.

And this coming from a perfectly happy Toyota Yaris owner. :)

It was either the Honda Civic, or Toyota Corolla

I hear the Corolla is coming out with the new generation of Corollas next year but I'm buying a car in 1-2 weeks.

But I also hear the Honda Civic has better handling, and is more sporty ie. for young people.

I THINK the insurance is about the same for both cars assuming I'm buying a new car. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It has very good reviews, but I spoke to a Honda mechanic who said they have higher than average problems. I think it is a great car feature wise, but doesn't have the "Honda" reliability.

The new corolla is coming out this summer...i think you really should wait...i mean...u will be kicking yourself (like I just did for the avalon) when you see the new model...i think it's worth the wait...buying a new car is a big decision...and btw..i think the Civic's Insurance will be more expensive...cuz of all of those jerks that modified their car for racing and running over ppl...i don't see much ppl modifying the Corrolla...but lots of ppl modified the Civics...it's the same reason why the 1.6EL and 1.7EL are cheaper in term of insurance...and judging on their new Camry...i would think their new Corolla will be awesome too...

I have an Acura CSX and it's like the Civic and it's very fun to drive.

I wish they had the http://www.scion.com in Canada! I saw them all in California! The 2 door one looks really good and they're inexpensive. The boxy one is kinda cute too.

Honda (Acura) quality isn't what it used to be. Check out Acura's issues with their transmission and grinding in 2nd gear.

if you take a civic, take the STANDARD VERSION, i test drove both and the automatic is way way inderpowered at 4 speeds, but the clutch at 5 speeds was a big WOW. also look at the toyota matrix XR, very interesting car

So you guys don't think I should get a Civic then?

I was hoping to get a car before July 1 cuz I will need a car to drive by then for work (moving to another city) so I don't know when the new Corolla will roll out.

Also, I was hoping to buy a Civic cuz it looks more sporty? for young guys?

Oh yeah, and I don't drive a manual (only automatic)...to answer last poster's post

test drove the new civic.... and found it underpowered compared to the mazda3 and subaru impreza...

but still... when you add maintenance, reliability and overall value.... i think the civic wins.

remember that honda focus is on low fuel consumption.

not as low as Toyota...and some Honda uses expensive gas...whereas all of Toyota cars will take regular...

Forget about Mazda - I just traded in my M3 because of the endless problems.

We bought my wife a 2006 Civic LX and we are very happy with it, but we really didn't shop around too much. She was very satisfied with her previous Civic that she had for 16 years, so we just headed for another Honda. The Fit was impressive for driving around town, but it is 4 year old technology, and relatively not well-suited for Highway driving (tall, shorter WB, narrower track). The Civic has most recent technology and is better on the highway but many more $$$. I wanted an Accord, but it was around $7,000 more to put a 4cyl SE on the road.

That being said, we did find the Civic a bit pricy, and the blind spots are horrible, but we'll have to get used to it. Also, I'm not fond of the cab-forward mini-Intrepid styling, but that was a secondary consideration.

It's good on gas and has many more mod cons than I would have expected on an economy car: 5-speed auto, ABS (but no rear discs, only on the EX), 6 air bags, cruise, tilt, PW, PDL, P heated mirrors, MP3 CD player, digital dash, 16" 5-bolt aluminium rims, etc. Not having bought a new car for 15 years, I am really out of touch with the state-of-the-art of auto technology.

Almost got into two accidents already...the blind spots really do need getting used to.

lots of people who have mazda 3's are running into transmission problems...not surprising as its the same platform as the ford focus(or maybe some other ford car)

so should I wait a bit to buy the civic after they sort out the problems of the new 2006 civic? Should I wait for the 2007 model to come out? Not sure if it comes out in 2006.

PS I don't like the new look of the Civic sedan 2006, looks kinda less sporty to
me. Coupe looks nice though I prefer 4-doors.

Thanks

What exactly are these serious problems in the 2006 Civic? Wait, you actually believe all the random unattributed comments by anonymous people on a Deals forum? Hilarious

There was an earlier comment with someone complaining about Civic's acceleration in automatic, because it had only 4 speeds. Hello? The '06 Civic uses a 5-speed DBW auto tranny... if you're going to critique an econobox at least get your model years straight ;)

yes really.

From Wikipedia:

The Axela is based on Ford's global C1 platform, which was developed by Volvo and which is shared with the latest European Ford Focus and Volvo S40. Chassis development was carried out by Mazda and suspension designed by Ford.

Ooops! When I saw he said "Ford Focus", I assumed the Canadian/American Focus.

(I already knew that the Maz3 uses the same platform as the Euro Focus and the S40... don't believe me, check my post history ;) )
