Every Tuesday at 6:00 AM, Dell will be unleashing their Tuesday Report, a one-day business deals promotion. Typically there's a couple peripherials of some sort and then a desktop and a notebook - but of course I'm open to surprises :) What would you like to see?
Here's the RFD link:
June 27: Tuesday Report (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=CAqD7bLWUPI&offerid=88712.487688622&type=10&subid=)
*Dell PowerConnect 2708 8-Port Gigabit Switch - $69
*Belkin Wireless G Router - $35
*Belkin 375VA UPS - $33
They've also got a server and notebook on the page but the details aren't quite there yet... I'll update it when it it.

considering Costco's "awesome return policy" (as mentioned here by many RFDers over the yrs), i don't see a prblm returning it.... even if it's 1/2 yr down the road after purchasing it...

The shipping kills the NCIX one IMO. Better off at Costco.
I picked up the Belkin from Dell for my Projector. Just needed something to run the fan for a few minutes if the power goes out so it will be perfect.

Exactly! Dell has free shipping. I ordered 3 of thoese Belkin UPS's. Very handy for all your computers.. Much better then just a 6 outlet surge protector which you will pay close to $30 for a decent quality one anyway.. Also the Opti-UPS that NCIX has is 650va which is higher then this one but it only has 2 power plugs on it which to me is lame. The Belkin has 6 outlets and 4 of them use the battery backup. For $33 with free ship I think it's a great deal.

The Belkin brand is pretty touch and go, but I'm going to order 2 of their UPS for the hell of it. Better than having NO UPS during thunderstorm season; and, I needed a power bar anyways. Going to order a few other things to see if I can get a better deal overal. :D

Well a notebook uses a lot less power then a desktop so I'd say you'd get at least 15mins maybe even up to 30 if that's all you had plugged into the battery backup ports...

Spend a bit more and get the 550VA (something like that) for $70. It's a better system with more features and really just 2 of these UPS in one. Looks better too.

You can compare the battery capacity of your laptop with this UPS.
For the Inspiron 1300 6-cell Li-ion battery, the capacity is 56WHr.
1 W = 1V *1A = 1VA
The UPS is 375VA for 15 min= 375W*0.25hr= 93WHr. Assume 75% total efficiency (UPS internal + laptop's transformer), the final capacity is around 70WHr. It is about 25% more than the 6-cell battery.
Inspiron 1300 6-cell Li-ion battery can last for about 4hr (without Wifi), so the 375VA 13 min UPS may last for 5 hours of use.
Edit: I just read the spec of the UPS. The Max output power is 200W. So the capacity is 50WHr. It is about the same size of the 6 cell battery.

On the phone with WIPRO (Dell outsourced sales arm).
Asked for the 2407 sale price and he asked the manager to okay it. They also ask if you're ordering anything else to sweeten the pot.
I think you can pretty well make up the price you want and see if the manager okays it; of course the more you buy, the better your chances are on getting the discount.
I bought ups, armature and thr display.

Haha, my notebook has no battery. It's also not a good idea to run your laptop with the battery engaged if you're using the AC for extended periods.

wow, thats one bad notebook battery
seriously though, should't you get a lot more than that. if it can sustain an avg computer for 15min (a power-hungry intel no doubt since dell sells intel only), then i would expect a laptop to go for at least an hour + the laptop battery's left over charge.

Care to elaborate on what jumbo packets are?
Here you go.
How jumbo is a jumbo frame anyway? Ethernet has used 1500 byte frame sizes since it was created (around 1980). To maintain backward compatibility, 100 Mbps ethernet used the same size, and today "standard" gigabit ethernet is also using 1500 byte frames. This is so a packet to/from any combination of 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet devices can be handled without any layer two fragmentation or reassembly. "Jumbo frames" extends ethernet to 9000 bytes. Why 9000? First because ethernet uses a 32 bit CRC that loses its effectiveness above about 12000 bytes. And secondly, 9000 was large enough to carry an 8 KB application datagram (e.g. NFS) plus packet header overhead. Is 9000 bytes enough? It's a lot better than 1500, but for pure performance reasons there is little reason to stop there. At 64 KB we reach the limit of an IPv4 datagram, while IPv6 allows for packets up to 4 GB in size. For ethernet however, the 32 bit CRC limit is hard to change, so don't expect to see ethernet frame sizes above 9000 bytes anytime soon.
