Is this some kind of typo? Shouldn't this be an ATA133?

Guys, I don't know too much about computers, but If I bought this harddrive, would I be able to buy a housing for it and run it thru a usb port, similar to the external HD's????

Yes if the external housing supports "3.5 inch" drives then yes.

It could be a typo or it could not be a typo. I've seen BOXED HD's that were 200 gigs that were ATA 100 instead of ATA 133! Just means it's slower:

Nope ... Seagate has always been ATA100 ... Don't worry, ATA133 does not make any performance difference in real-life. The maximum throughput of today's HD is far far below of 100MB/s.

I'd say nope, you'll save a few bucks with this deal.

So is Western Digital.

Maxtor is the only one that uses ATA133 among the Big 3.

Not really, sometimes if there is a big sale somewhere...but not $80...usally $90 or $100 and this isn't SATA it's EIDE.

Hmm, I guess EIDE is more expensive than Sata now...

This place has a WD Sata 250GB for $80...I remember a a while ago they had the Seagate for that price...but you should call to confirm stock

Guys, please be careful about spreading disinformation and confusing newbie buyers. ATA133 is said to be a marketing trick by Maxtor to appear to have higher performance than other drives; there IS an actual "ATA133" spec, but few adhere to it because it provides virtually no benefit except implementing some of the serial ATA commandset - since this spec appeared around the same time as SerialATA 150, most vendors just went with that one. Maxtor, on the other hand, openly advertises compatibility with ATA133 to appear "faster". You will notice, on any benchmarks, that Seagate is usually faster than Maxtor, if only by a little bit. The 33% difference is, essentially, a hoax. In any case, ATA100 is just as much of a hoax - the "100" stands for 100 MB/s that represents the theoretical limit of what a hard drive can burst at; as it currently stands, drives burst at close to 66MB/sec, the original ATA66 spec.

All that to say, do NOT base your decision on "I think I should get ATA133, it sounds faster", and do NOT listen to people who say "my Maxtor runs faster than my Seagate or Western Digital or whatever because I have ATA133".

250g ATA drive 46c/gig

but the

320 sata is 39.1c/gig

(In America, newegg has the 320 sata for USD$90 shipped to a us address with the code 'buybaracuda'

thus, if you have SATA, the 320 is the ideal deal!

That is why there are faster SATA drives. However, they didn't live up their performance. Thus, SATAII are now out. I think SCSI drives are still the fastest. Can someone confirm that?
