Hey guys,
I thought I would share a HOT deal. Just got an email from a friend of mine who works at Radioshack..Sorry if this one may be in a previous thread..
RadioShack is having a massive Blowout Sale in order to make room for new models coming in August. They have really stepped up the discounts for Home Audio, Portable Audio, DVD Players/Recorders, phones and other giftables that are coming to the end of line.
The new pricing will be effective this Saturday July 29th. This is the last kick at insane pricing (upto 80%) and they are in the process of launching new assortments in the stores.
I have a PDF file that outlines the item/model, with what the original price was and what they will go down to on Saturday, also a rough number of units that are left in the chain. Good time to buy if you are looking for a new toy or a gift.
You can download the file here --> http://rapidshare.de/files/27102656/Clearance_Pricing_Jul29_Email.pdf.html
Also here is a link to the website with store locations. Happy Hunting!

Agreed. None near me either. They really should have a webstore up and running if they couldn't be a national retail chain right away.
I just call it Circuit City.
I call it The Source. Bad marketing on their part to give their chain a name that could be referred to equally correctly by two separate names.

2000 Tandy Corporation renamed RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: "RSH").
2005 RadioShack regains its brand in Canada and begins opening new stores.
yep, they're backThat's part of the story...
Barrie-based InterTan was the wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary of Tandy Corp (now Radio Shack Corp.) InterTan was spun off as a separate company with local ownership in the 1990s and the "Radio Shack" brand was then licensed by this new company for Canada. The Canadian investors of InterTan sold to Circuit City of the U.S. about 2003.
Radio Shack and Circuit City are competitors in the U.S. Thus Radio Shack had been in the courts in 2004-5 trying to get their name back and invalidate the current licensing agreement in Canada.
Circuit City lost the court case and had to re-brand about 900 stores in Canada to "The Source by Circuit City" by June 30th, 2005. To brand them as Circuit City stores would be not appropriate because the American stores are more like big box stores like Best Buy.
There are/were no Circuit City stores previously in Canada. They had to change the names of all Radio Shacks in Canada by court order. Radio Shack Corp. opened their own stores in Canada in the fall of 2005 and attempted to re-sign some of the franchisees over.
Here's a thread started in January 2005 about the changeover:
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/showthread.php?t=128312
http://printer.konicaminoltaeurope.com/images/etailers/logo_computerc.gif
You may remember a big box computer retailer called Computer City and they were owned and run by Tandy Corp/InterTan. In June 1998, they were sold to CompUSA in the states and in November 1998, Future Shop bought the seven locations in Canada from CompUSA. Future Shop eventually closed them all by late 1999.
Computer mega-center CompUSA has bought all 100 Computer City locations from parent Tandy Corporation in a $275 million deal, the companies announced on Monday. The purchase makes CompUSA the overwhelming leader in computer superstores, and it allows Tandy to unload a money-losing venture.
"We are extremely excited about this acquisition as we believe it will further enhance CompUSA's ability to be a 'total solutions provider' for our retail, corporate, government, education, mail order, technical services, training, and build-to-order customers," said CompUSA CEO Jim Halpin. "We believe this will allow us to provide our customers with additional products, superior service and added convenience."
CompUSA isn't saying yet whether the Computer City locations in the United States will retain their name or revert to CompUSA, although Canadian stores won't suffer a name change.

....that's weird, i thought radio shack has gone the way of the "dinosaur"?

I just call it Circuit City.
Ok here's the deal.
Radio Shack in Canada has always (until last year) been owned and run by a *totally different company* than Radio Shack in the US. That company was called 'InterTan'. They licensed the Radio Shack name and bdanding, and pricing, but that's all. If you have any older "Radio Shack" bdanded rpoducts lying around, check the label, and you'll see it was made by InterTan. Whereas RadioShack in the US is owned and run by Tandy corperation.
So, two years ago, Cir4cuit City bought InterTan. Now you can see the issue - Radio Shack and Circuit City in the US are huge competitors. They really didn't want them to use their brand name - it would be like Lowes buying out the Home Depot brand from Home Depot canada and running the thing. So, Radio Shack corperation either *did not* renew the license agreement, or they re-negotiated their way out of it, or something. So then, Circuit city decide dto name all the stores "The Source".
After all this took place, and Circuit City began it's rollout of re-branding, Radio Shack says "hey, now we have no Canadian presence, we'd better get back there", so now theyre opening *real* "Radio Shack" stores, that are run by Tandy, not InterTan.

The only reason why Tandy even spun-off Interan is because those american hacks couldn't run the Canadian division properly.
So good luck to the new Radio Shack's, they are going to fail. I think it was a poor business decision by those hacks in the states to go to court. Tandy earlier this year just announced that they are closing down at least 700 stores in the states.

I see some great deals in there (Phillips Portable DVD player for one).
Whoever said "great -now their prices would be on MSRP" is pretty close, but these prices are 50-70% off the normal price, which means about 40% lower than regular retail. This stuff may not be for everyone, but there are definetly some good deals on that list.

Just a quick FYI - I would also suggest that you call your local RadioShack store to check if the item(s) are available at that particular location. I believe the PDF file with the quantities available is chainwide, so no way to tell where the actual inventory lies. This may save you time when you actually go to the store, in case you find out that they do not have it in stock.

actually, i'm sure many of us have taken advantage of RS/TS deals back then when they had clearance deals... some of 'em were actually pretty good.
most of the time, yeah, i'd say FS/BB/NCIX/etc has better sales than RS/TS, but sometimes they do have their own "good" sales...

I was talking to someone at the shack today. As it turns out they had expected to have 30 stores open by now but due to some leases falling through they weren't able to open up that many. So now they are stuck with 6X the inventory they would normally have and need to dump it before Xmas.
I checked the inventory out and they pretty much have everything except a couple of digital cameras. People will be making out good on Saturday. At the store I was at, I saw the two staff hording some stuff in the back so at least they'll be taking care of.

Picked up the following in Calgary (Deerfoot Mall):
Shower Radio w/ CD: $5 (Bought two of these)
Casio CTK-700 Keyboard: $50 (last one they had in a box - demo unit still available)
Cobra FRS Radios (13 km range) w/ charger: $30
4 X 4-packs AAA batteries: $12
RCA Lyra, 512 MB MP3 w/ SD card slot: $50
1:52 Mini Cooper RC Cars: $7 (One for me and one for my son for Racing ;) )
There seems to be lots of stock at this Calgary store, if you're looking for the MP3 player, FRS radios, and RC cars. They didn't have the Clearance tags on these, so a price check confirmed the sale price.
Sweet deals to be had, and I didn't notice lots of people scoopin' any of these bargains. Good Xmas gift shopping for me.
Thanks to the OP for this post!

Bummer they didn't price tag these items. I was in the Burlington Mall location today looking at portable DVD's, even asked specifically about the Philips - was tagged at $200 not $129... I would have bought it in a heartbeat if I had read this post before I was in shopping.
Their loss.
Does anyone know if this pricing is from now on or if it was a one day sale?

What a pity! This is no Radioshack in Ottawa, Kanata and Nepean
Not yet, no one in Ottawa has decided to start a new RS franchise but I'm sure there's some wealthy RFD'ers that might want to take on the opportunity. ;)

I bought that keyboard in Pickering for $49 and took the last one they had. The staff didn't mark any of the items clearance priced. They had to scan it to get the price. There was a clearance sheet by the register. The only thing they didn't have was the $5 shower radio and the Casio keyboard as of noon Saturday.
That's because I was there before you and got them all...

Hi All,
I bought this player for $50 and gave it a go.
CONS:
There is a definite low pitch hiss and squeal that is discenrible at low volumes.
No playlist support.
No ability to choose albums, artists, genres.
USB plug on the unit is on the back and not the side, so you can't lie it flat on a surface when plugged into your computer.
Although it says that it supports USB 2.9, download speeds are excruciating compared with my SD card reader.
Buttons require lots of pressure to activate (this may be an advantage for some as there is minimal chance of accidental presses)
No FM tuner
PROS:
Standard mini USB plug and cable.
Drag and drop files - no SW req'd to fill the unit.
SD card slot - coupled with my previous comment, you can use the unit as an SD card reader.
I'm returning this unit as I've also had it lock up on me after 15 minutes of use. I'm going for a used Rio Forge on eBay...

Just got back from the Mississauga store... the store rep and manager thought there were none left and I was prepared to buy the demo, turns out they had three that just came in, I got one and there should be two left when I left at around 4.
That might be a way to go if you really want the keyboard, since it seems like a lot of places have them sold out now.

Have you considered the futureshop sandisk 140 player, OR the Sony at Compusmart $87 1 gig,
-lasts 34.5 hours on a AAA battery (!)
-very loud, HQ sound
-slow transfers
-no expandability or FM
-but you save on batteries

Hey everyone the deals are continuing at RadioShack it is clearance so it hasn't ended, I suggest you check out the closest store at the link below and see which one is close.
RadioShack isn't the same crappy store that existed for 30 years, that problem now belongs to Circuit City. The new shack is much more electronics focused rather than the gizmo and gadgets the old Shack was known for.
Check out the store you'll see the difference. You can actually walk through the store, not having to worry about knocking stuff all over the place.
For the guy who wanted to know about the Belkin stuff, they do make good networking products, I am personally using their Pre-N, easy to install and good performance. The PCI adapter is a steal at that price.

I don't actually work at the stores. But you should give the closest one and see if they have available what you are looking for, from the list. Anyone at the store can help you, this is available to everyone, just no advertising was done.
