I"m looking for a motherboard with integrated video with 3D capabilities.
The two options I'm leaning towards are the boards with the VIA Unichrome Pro and the SiS Ultra256 chipsets.
Anyone heard anything good or bad regarding the two?
Is one chipset better then the other?

both are no good unless your planning on playing flash games or soemthing ... the gpu's in those chipsets are ment to be for like business computers. What ya want to be lookin at is the boards with the Xpress200 igp or Geforce6150 igp based chipsets on them for a board that has decent 2d preformance on them. Of course you can also buy 1 of those low end s939 boards based on those chipsets & buy like a low end Radeon X1300 or Geforce 7300 videocard to put on them if they have the pci-e videocard slot on the board which all the Ati Xpress & Geforce 6150 boards do have.

if ya need more clairification on some of those boards with the better intergrated fideo onboard jsut ask & 1 of us on the board here will be glad to find ya a board or 2 like what ya need. :)

May I ask why VIA and SiS ? And not ATI, nVidia or even Intel ?

neither graphics chip would be a dealbreaker for me. If your looking at motherboards with those chipsets go with Price, then Dimm slots, as your primary concerns.

I believe ATI has the best on-board video. I'm not sure about nvidia since there's more ATI on-boards than nvidia. Everything else sucks and can't really play any games or intensive graphics.

Can you name some reasonably priced MoBos with ATI integrated chipsets?

Canada Computers:

It depends on what processor you are looking for? Do you already have a processor to use? If you are looking for a cheap budget then go for socket 939 or AM2. Then just look for motherboards with ATI Xpress IGP or X300 or something similar.

Note that this are for socket 939. You should be able find other motherboards sockets with ATI chipsets.

This is a pretty good on-board compared to VIA/SIS/INTEL:

DFI RS482 Infinity Socket 939 ATI Radeon RS482 Chipset Dual Ch DDR400 Integrated ATi Radeon X300 Graphics TV-Out(HDTV Supports)/ VGA/DVI-D Output Serial ATA Raid 8-Ch Audio GB Lan IEEE 1394 Micro ATA - $109.99 @ CanadaComputers

Some other ones:

ECS RS480-M(1.0) Socket 939 ATI Radeon Graphics Xpress 200 Chipset Dual-Ch DDR 6 Ch-Audio IEEE 1394 - $69.99

MSI RS480M2-IL Socket 939 ATI Radeon Graphics Xpress 200 Chipset Dual-Ch DDR 6 Ch-Audio IEEE 1394 - $89.99

MSI RS482M4-ILD Socket 939 ATI Radeon Xpress 200(RS482) Chipset ATI Radeon Integrated Graphics DVI Connector Build In PCI Express x16 Serial SATA Raid 10/100 Lan 7.1 Ch Audio IEEE 1394 Micro ATX - $89.99

You might also want to consider a board that uses Geforce6100 as it performs better than the Xpress200...
