I take my dog to a dog groomer that charges $45. Is it necessary for me to tip, since it is a service, or is it okay not to? If you do tip, how much?

I'm interested in hearing from current dog owners who use grooming services.

DONT get me started on tipping...:@

whats with people and tipping? isnt she or he getting 45$? why do they deserve a tip? cause they are doing their job  ..... tipping for a service someone does for free or a nice action, or something is okay, ill do that too, but not when people are doing their jobs :S.....like at coffee shops :@

Nice to know someone can spend more money on a dog towards grooming than I spend on myself for grooming.

Whenever I bring my dog to the groomer, her hair is down to the ground and it needs to be groomed to about 1" and it usually takes 3-4 hours to groom her. $45 for the grooming is not that much as it takes a lot of work so I usually tip $5 or more depending on how matted my dog's hair is.

If you go to Pet Smart, I wouldn't bother tipping as they already over charge for their services.

Why does everyone tip everything now? If your waiter sucks, no tip! If you think the dog groomer deserved it (who are we to tell what kind of work she did), than tip! You tip because they do a good job. ie) if waiter sucks, don't tip!

Some of the other posters have indicated that if you're not happy with a service, then don't tip.

I'm always happy with my dog's groomer; they do a wonderful job each time.

I used to tip for dog grooming...but then I stopped. Here's why.

When I first started to bring my dog in, they told me the price was $45 including tax. I paid them $45 plus $5 tip several times. Then, when I had already gone there for about 4-5 months, the groomer tells me she's raising the prices to $45!! I just said 'ok', realizing that all this time she was charging me more than the other clients.
Since then, I have never tipped. (I'm trying to recoup my tipping costs from before! :cheesygri )

Moot. All those people don't handle dogs for a living. Not only do groomers cut the dog's fur into a nice style, they also bathe the dog, trim its nails, and clean its ears. That's more work than some waitress who brings me food or a cable guy who hooks up my cable. If the groomer owns the place then I don't tip, but I'll tip if it's an employee getting paid around minimum wage.

edited for off topic, heh.
