Anybody ever buy 1 dozen of anything? Well to me that's the usual number. Not at Everbest bakery at Woodside square ... if you buy one dozen buns, you get 8 in a box and 4 in a paperbag! Now that's wonderful for taking to someone's house as a guest 1 box plus 1 paperbag! In order to get 2 boxes, you have to buy 14, and you know that's a badluck number for Chinese.

So I try to buy 8 bbq pork buns (to fit into a box), but they only had 7. So I take 6 of these and pick up 2 chicken ones because we don't like odd numbers, and the girl there asks me what's wrong with the 7th bbq bun. Hey come on, like some people only go buy 1 bun, so what if I leave the 7th bun that happens to be last. Anyway it's midday so lots of customers and still lots of batches of buns. Then I ask about the egg tarts and they tell me it's 8 to a box, so I take 8, then I see there's still space in the box and end up buying 12, but they tell me usually it's 8 in a box so they have to ring up 8 and then add 4.

Wow, so many rules just to buy a dozen buns and a dozen eggtarts!! Back to T&T I guess! Or maybe the staff there were sniffing something weird ...

Its called the typical Cantonese "8" scenario. I hate it when they use that tactic on you especially those people who work at the meat/fish department at the independantly owned grocery stores. They are so cocky / rude to you when you ask them for something and they force you to choose this piece of fish as opposed to what you want and they ALWAYS say its fresh and they don't even let you sniff it. Golden Food Mart at Market Village use to have a sign where you were not allowed to select your veggies/fruits that were on the table and that whatever you touch is yours. I get that even at Canada Computers when I tried to price match something and the supervisor was complaining about how he had to go through the trouble of looking up another stores price (probably thinking I would be a VERY nice person and he would say that to make me indirectly think that I would say "its ok you don't have to look I'll pay whatever price you are giving me". I don't know..clearly he wasn't showing good customer service. It sucks but thats the asian way of things I find. Always trying to sound so pissed off and cocky to pressure you to buy something.

asian businesses and customer service do not go hand in hand. However, many do allow haggling which is a good thing. Usually better customer service is associated with increased costs. Most businesses run on the premise, you will buy if you like but if you don't go elsewhere.

Canadacomputers is doing a booming business, so they aren't as concerned with making every sale especially a price matching one. When does canadacomputers pricematch?

It doesn't say on their site but at the one I go to posts a sign outside saying they will price match their prices with others.
