I'm planning to get a peacoat that's form fitting.
Last year I went to Old navy to try on one of theirs but it was a little bloated. I also saw one from Club monaco that I really liked but it was over $200.
so I'm looking for one reasonably priced and form fitting (slim waist, slim arm + shoulders).
Any suggestions?
Some people suggested army surplus but i'm pretty sure their sizes aren't slimming at all unless they're vintage....

In clothing, cheap is almost always mutually exclusive with 'fitting'.
Old Navy fits like sh*t. Try Zara, they often fit very nice. Although I'm betting their peacoats are about $150-$200.

my girlfriend has a peacoat from jacob that looks quite good. no idea on the 'slimming' features, but jacob's prices are usually pretty good compared to other stores when considering the quality of their merchandise.

I'd say Burberry but they're even more expensive than ZARA or CM...
Try London Fog or Jones New York when the Bay has sales on.

how long do you think peacoats generally last for? Is there a major difference in the quality and durability of quality coats and coats from say club monaco?

Check the Holt Renfrew Outlet store called "last call" or something at Vaughn Mills mall. They are still expensive $200-500 but are pretty trendy.

hey guys. well yea I wanted to get a pea coat for this fall too. (loved the one kanye wore in diamonds are forever MV!) lol I have a question tho is there a difference in the quality between like zara/cm and like old navy and how long do you think these pea coats last?

Old Navy is probably the lowest quality ever for a peacoat. Oh that and Orfus Rd. Anything with merino wool or cashmere is probably going to last a while with proper care.

You can feel the difference in quality!! Better quality coats are also lined with nicer material. I personally think the cut and quality at Old Navy is quite poor but their clothes are quite cheap, so that's the trade-off. I would expect better quality coats to last longer with proper care (less pilling, etc.)

Pea coats are classic, and it bothers me when people treat them like disposable trends ("this season, I want a pea coat"). They should be fitted, big enough to wear over a sweater, but not big enough to wear over a suit. Anyway, if you're going to get a pea coat, get the real deal. Try a surplus place, or order from a company that produces it according to US Navy specs - like Schott.

Is there a store that sells Schott near Toronto? I don't want to shop online without trying on the size.

Yup....still wearing the jacket from high school. I only wear it in the fall/spring though since I need a warmer jacket for winter. They last if they are of good quality and are properly cared for.

RW&CO might have something like that for less. I never look at the mens stuff there, but it seems like their style.

$200-300 for a winter coat that will last your years, pretty good investment imo.

I got mine at The Gap.
These things are still in vogue?
Wow - I'll get another year out of it.
I remember the last one I had ages ago, they went out of style the next season.

I like these coats but how do you keep yourself warm in the harsh canadian weather?.....an extra scarf isn't really going to do it...

Used army peacoats are around $20~$50. They're not very slim fitting though, since they are built for warmth and not fashion...
you can find them in kensington market.

NOT SURE IF THIS FITS YOUR DESCRIPTION PERFECTLY BUT...
I just bought a peacoat-like coat from H&M in green, they also had orange and grey. It has a very 1950s look to it yet still modern - Its slim, long, form-fitting, nice shoulders, round collar, and nice detailing at the front and back, top three buttons are visible, the rest are invisible, and it was $99, so good enough that you could use it for one season and will be worth your money.
EDIT: opps sorry, this is a woman's coat, not sure what you're looking for.

Yeah I saw a black peacoat for mens at H&M today. I BELIEVE it was $119. It came in black, I didn't see any other colours though (then again, I didn't go take a look at the coats, just saw them when I was walking around).

I have 2 of them.
One navy blue from Dockers, merino wool I think, Nice enough. ~125.
Not form fitting.
One grey with gold colour lining, cashmere, from Costco. $100. Last year.
This one is form fitting. Bought it with my friend's costco membership.
Costco stuff are not bad, but for the price, pretty good quality .
Take care of them, don't sqaush them or throw them around. They will last.

My gf made me try that one on, but it looked too much like I was serving in the military hehehe.
Instead, I bought a double breasted one from Banana Republic ... I think it's this one:

It's $375CDN
You may also want to check Moores.

You can wait til Boxing day, I got a double breasted peacoat at Eddie Bauer. From ~$300 to $100 on Boxing day, heh. Made of 100% recycled wool though, not sure if that is a bigfactor in the quality, but it's warm to me.

I agree. I have a 3/4 wool/cashmere coat that I love, but in the middle of winter, it doesn't cut it. These coats are great with layering, however.
[OT warning] I'm glad that coats targetted for our climate have become fashionable, too. I have seen some very sexy down-filled parkas, that can be worn in the office and on weekends.

what's the difference between a Peacoat and normal wool jacket?
I recently bought a Jones New York Jacket, 30% off $375 plus a sucked into signing up for a Bay Card, extra 10% off.

AFAIK male peacoats are not really slim fitting. Go with a nice 3/4 length coat instead. I'm a skinny bastard and I have a hard time finding one that's fitting too. According to the size chart on Banana, I should be wearing XS, only they and every other NA chains don't make XS for men's coat, lawl.
The only places I've found something good were at Zara and Benetton.
The Sisley ones at Benetton are especially nice. They make the Old Navy, Gap, Banana and Mexx ones look like rags. I'm hella pissed that they closed the Edmonton store.
Anyone knows where I can get some nice European sized coats in Edmonton? >:(
