This (http://www.serviceontario.ca/english/mto/welcome.htm) is the web site which allows you to order personalized plates online. I'm sure it has some sort of plate-exist-checking system.

Thanks. I thought it would like the domain name registration, which I can check availability before I do anything. This site asks for my driver licence info upfront, I guess they expect me to purchase it once I check on the personalized plate.
I understand it costs more to order the custom plate for the 1st year registration. Does it cost more for future years' registration as well ? Normally, it is $74 for vehicle in GTA, will it cost $74 for the custom plate from 2nd year as well ?

The fee is always $74 per year per car. The $200 extra to personalize is a one-time fee.

Thanks.
I guess I would not know whether it is available until they get back to me, right. The online ordering don't seem to allow us to check availability before placing the order.

Sometimes they turn you down for reasons other then the plate being taken, Derogitory or condiscending plates for example.
I know a friend of mine had a brand new charger, the daytona version with bags installed. Sweet car, and when he applied for the licenseplace "Depthcharge" (obviously not in that spelling) they turned him down saying it was a violent reference.
Pretty stupid reason IMO.

I notice that we can order custom plate through those machines in the mall. But I am wondering if I can check what #s are available through those machines.
I tried that option last nite, but as soon as I selected that. It asked me for credit card info. Has anyone ordered custom plate from the machine before ? Can you share your experience ? If I can select the one I want from it, it can save me a trip going to the office. Can someone confirm that ?
Thanks

I use the following link when I want to visually see what a custom plate will look like. Only catch is the Ontario plates have a stupid crown in the center.

you usually get a 1st and 2nd choice, if one isnt available you get the other. if both are taken or refused, i cant remember if you get your money back or not.
and if you're getting something kinda iffy, do it via the mall terminal. try and avoid over the phone or at the ministry office, cause they ask you more questions about the reason you chose that name.

naw you're not old. it just means you've reached a level of maturity and sophistication where you're able to use proper words to express your sentiments. i believe the translation of the above would be something like:
PWN3D - derived from the inability of prepubescent teens from being able to type 'owned'.
J00 - similar to the above, this refers to 'you'
combined it means the person in question 'owns you'. not in the literal sense of course, but meaning that somehow they bested you in a test of young manly penis length measuring.

A few years ago I used search through the kiosk in the mall and it allowed me to search as many times as I wanted. Perhaps you have to put in your creditcard but I'm sure there would be a confirmation before you actually purchase.

I believe it's just the standard rental fee of $74/year. The extra one-time fee only applies to custom plates.
