If this is the case, where should hot pot fans go instead? I like icook, but I'm definitely open to new suggestions if they're near that area and are better.

i stay away from Dow's because they are nasty and the service sucks.
Commerce gate recently opened a Mongolian Hot Pot (Little Lamb), it's alright, but a bit pricy.. at least the meat is good and fresh unlike other places i have been to.
I usually frequent the one just across the street from World Bowl to the north, that place usually has alot of people. price is reasonable.. and free BC crab if you have 4 or more people.
the midland and finch one is kick ass.. but too spicy if you order the wrong soup base.
i mostly frequent the one at World Bowl with the wife.. we like it there since the service is good, there is chinese tv to watch while eating, and the price is just about right

good place to eat but not frequent.. you know.. once every few months.... wouldn't recommend it as a every week type of hot pot... then the taste gets a bit stale ;)

Is the one at Midland and Finch called Flavour King? Or are we talking about a different one?

that one on Midland and Finch is probably the one along the Mac's and Taco Bell/KFC.. i believe the sign is yellow with red letters.

No one likes Hot Pot King (adjacent to Club 300 Bowling) on Old Kennedy off Steeles? Started going there in 2001 and still like to go 1-2 times every month.

Flavour King @ Finch & Midland used to be my favourite. But now it is number 2.
There's a tiny little restaurant on the south side of Baldwin St. just west of Spadina that specializes in Sichuan hot pot. This is my number 1 hot pot restaurant. It has 3 different types of dipping sauces including fermented tofu. The owner is really from Sichuan and knows how to make good soup for cooking.
The restaurant is dark & dingy. But the food is awesome. I don't know what the English name is (Chinese name, literally translated, is "Old Sichuanese"). You can't miss the restaurant since it's the only Sichuan hot pot restaurant there.

That one north of World Bowl is cheap (last time I went), just dont get the full hot pot which includes a small plate of seafood (no refills on the plate) and it cost like 2 bucks less.
After 9pm I think it is even cheaper.

what's so bad about dow's? I used to go there quite often in the winter, now I go to Mongolian Hot Pot or the one across from World Bowl because they're cheaper but I still like Dow's noodles the best because of those "fish noodles" you get to squeeze yourself. But the meat at mongolian hot pot is nicer because they are cut very thin and look fresh.
