View Full Version : Type R + Parking at TTC lots = Gone in 60 Secs???

I'm in a process of buying a car and I'm close to picking up a Type-R for around $20K .... but the dilemma is that I work downtown which means having to park at either the GO or TTC parking lots for more than 8 hours a day (Maybe 3 or 4 times a week, the rest I usually drive down). The problem is that my friends have told me that my car probably won't last one day in one of those parking lots ..... Is that an over-exageration or is that true??? if so are there parking lots that have survellience or at least a parking lot attendent ???? ...... or maybe i should just pick up a car less attractive to theives like a Cobalt SS ???? any advice? ..... before anyone says ditch the car altogether and just take the TTC, I can't because I live 20 minutes away by car from either TTC or the GO.

you should just donate the 20k you spent on the type-r to charity if you are gonna park it at go/ttc parking lol

yea its that bad

either stolen or vandalized is gonna be your fate sooner or later at those lots, i pick sooner

your car WILL be stolen if you leave it in the same lot everyday for eight hours. type R's are the biggest targets........

as for the cobalt, it's kinda flashy too.

its not the lot per se...
Its more like your car, and the fact that your parking it in the same spot for 8hrs consistently.
thieves like patterns and fancy cars. Type R's are also perfect to gut for parts to be easily sold on the black market...eg. Rims, Engine, Seats, shift knob, "ginuine type R" parts... Even the body mouldings.
They'll notice taht you come home from work @5pm and think "okay... ill just pretend like i own the car and rob it @ 12pm when hes @ work" and then BAM! your car is gone.

Drive a Tercel if you want to park at a TTC lot...
Your Type-R will be gone in 20 seconds especially if they have master keys.

This totally off topic but why would you pay $20k for the TypeR? I know its a very good car but its legend has long passed. Unless you have special things for it. If you're looking for a good performance car there are other options.

Also i would not park any $20k car at TTC or GO parking lot for 8 hrs everyday. You're asking for it.

Your luck with an ITR might not be so good as others have alluded to.

You can always change your place of dwelling. Stranger things have happened.

yeah don't park your Type-R in TTC or GO lots. Cars have been stolen from those lots, I know a few people that have had their cars stolen.

And they weren't even that nice! One was a Corolla and I think the other was an Accord (older one though).

My brother had his Neon stolen from the Go lot. It was a LOUSY NEON.

A thief knows that if a car is in the lot, chances are, you will not be back for 8 hours. Plenty of time to boost the car. There is no security, no cameras out doors. Who is going to stop them?

If you want a car, then get monthly parking and park downtown. Otherwise, paying $20k for weekend driving is stupid. It is cheaper to take cabs or rent. $20k buys a lot of cab rides.

get the Type R, it'll be ok. BTW, which subway lot will you be parking at? how long will you be gone? What's the colour of your car? and i also recommend full insurance coverage, especially the theft coverage. :)

kiss your car goodbye. ttc/go parking lots are like a buffet for thieves.

Sep 13th, 2006, 08:48 AM
I've parked many times at finch, fairview or kennedy and i've haven't been a victim yet ....... granted it is an older integra (Non R)

There lots of $20k cars at ttc lots, like newer accords, camrys and even some bimmers etc. But, I'll most likely stay away from this car and pick up something less attractive to thieves ...... I don't need the extra worry in life and having to stress out by looking over my shoulder everytime I get off work and walk to my car hoping its still there.

maybe see if u can arrange to park the car at a neighboring lot that IS occupied during the day, like a plaza or office building?

TYPE R + GO/BUS Station parking = STOLEN.

Do not park the R at a lot for a long period of time..

The R is worth alot to thieves..

There was a member here not to long ago that had his GSR stolen at a Go station P.LOT.

you park your car 4 days in the parking lot and you probably store your ITR in winter.....not much chance driving it....and you risk to have your car stolen, then jack the insurance rate up to the sky.

I would get a beater car just to park at the TTC parking.....cheaper for insurance and not much pain even it got stolen.

if it's a 97, it'll be gone in 10 mins, if it's 98+ it'll be gone in 30
simple as that
if u have theft coverage, it shouldn't matter anyways
jus keep a spare token on you for the ride home after your car disappears

Best to buy a parking pass for your type-R and park it where you work. Least there i'm sure there is security. Your cheaper alternative is to buy an ipod and take the bus like a lot of people do and leave your car at home. OR buy a beater car? something low on insurance to have that will get you from point a to b without the flashy stuff and i'm sure your car will be there.

Hey masterbater, what would u do with the 20K??? ..... I knew someone was going to bring up a car comparison and turn the thread into a "Type R vs. Some Random Car" thread just like all the other countless times, so i'm not going to get baited into this. I've already decided that i'm not buying it.

ok sorry for making it one of 'those' threads...but it hurts me that 20K is going towards a ITR when it could be put to WAY better use :( :( like even a Type S RSX .... might i ask why you are so keen on the Type R? and it better not be because of the BIG RED R badges

You can NOT park an R @ the public lots. Hell you can't even take them to movie theatres or malls sometimes. Furthermore make sure you park the car inside your garage, if you leave it overnight on your driveway, you can kiss it goodbye.

I have a ton of freinds that lost their type R's/GSRs in all the manners described above.

If you do buy it anyways, take the time to learn to reroute hood cable, kill switches, power lock switch disabling, not to mention get a boomerrang, pretty much anyhting and everything that can perhaps stop, slow down theives, and NO I am not exaggerating.

wtf? get a life loser!

The OP has decided not to buy it so this thread is pretty much dead. I wonder what car he would buy tho? I think a Camry or Accord is a good choice, but dont get a flashy new one tho.

personally, i wouldnt get an ITR for $20K... the new Civic Si is a much better car in almost all respects and is only a few thousand more for something thats brand new, with factory warranty. unless you're a purist that enjoys a stripped-down car. Tegs are magnets for theft and vandalism. but hey, its your money, spend it however you want.

so what if someone drove a 2006 Audi A8 or a BMW 7 series and parked it there for 8 hours a day ofr 5 days a week? would it get stolen? or could* it get stolen?

why steal a cheap car tho? i don't understand that concept...

you can't part out a CLS like an integra and sell them instantly. Masterballer is biased haha. He always suggests the WRX, when yes, it could perform better but some people don't like the looks. Performance is not everything. It must also fit your taste.

Exactly. Look at the "clientele" the theives have. People that own Civics and Integras and the like buy/sell on forums all the time, they just buy anything from anyone. Is it cheap? Great. Do they want it for their car? Of course, that's what all these kids do--they just buy parts for their cars. I mean you'll find people with base Civics putting Integra Type-R parts in where they can, etc...

Market is HUGE for cars/parts like those.

But take the middle-to-upper-class regular guy that owns a BMW or Mercedes or whatever. You don't see those guys [for the most part] trying to put like M5 parts on their 3 series, etc. They don't spend all their time on internet forums for their cars trying to buy cheap parts to replace other parts or to sub for parts/options they couldn't afford when they bought the car. Now some of them do, I'm sure, but it's just not the majority. And the more expensive the car gets, the less the market gets. Take a 7-series for example, like what 7-series owner is going to be looking for parts for their car? If they can afford a $100,000+ car, they aren't going to be looking to get that cupholder from a 750i for their 745i

Certainly there is a market for those cars for theives as well, as they could be shipping the parts elsewhere or selling them to shops that will use them to repair other cars, etc.; but they are much more difficult to turnover and won't get them the quick cash. Plus they are almost always more work to steal.

And that's another thing--the easier the car is to steal the more stolen it will be. It's pretty much how much they can make from stealing the car to difficulty stealing ratio, lol. Whatever maximises the money that can be made and minimises the effort to do so will be what gets stolen most. Plus easy-to-steal cars are stolen for other purposes such as joyriding, etc. which just adds to the theft statistics...

The BMW thieves would want Alpina stuff. Now that would fetch money on the market. Limited edition as they usually are.

and that reason being is that when i used to pass warden station
everyday coming home from work, i would see the same black RX-8
parked there ( in the morning when i went to work and on the way
back in the afternoon ). i have never once seen it vandalized or
stolen for months... i've moved since so i've never gotten a chance
to pass by there, but i'm sure it will be alright

im not bias, reason i use the wrx all the time is because its a very good bang for buck car with warrenty out there for less than 20K most of the times, even a RSX-S is better than the R ... new civic Si .... the list can go on ... althought the Si is ore $$ its a WAY better car with warrenty..

get a 1990-1993 Integra
Put a ITR motor in it.

No one wants those integras.
Actually handle better than the next gens.

list of anti theft things to do.
1. kill switch
2. re route hood cable
3. glue razor blades underneath the dash.
4. take all your spark plug wires with you when you leave.
5. 2nd kill switch under the hood.
6. put a NRA/Tabil tiger/Al qada SP? sticker in your window
7. Leave a empty box of ammo on your seat.
8. leave a pitbull on your seat.
9. put a Master Lock Padlock rig on your e brake. so they need bolt cutters to disengage the brake.

Are anti-theft devices useless in Toronto? In Manitoba, there's a promotion for vehicle immobilizers which is really cutting down on vehicle theft (Winnipeg is supposedly the car theft capital of Canada). I would have thought that an immobilizer and something like the Club would have been plenty.

Toronto theives are a step ahead from the rest of the world, they can jack any car....

Brand new escalades disappear all the time, we had several preludes on tpc disappear (these cars come built with immobolizer).

They should bring baitcar program from BC down here, its proven to work in bc so it must work on the dumb ****s in Toronto.

Buy 2 boots from parking control. Put one in the front, one in the back, it'll be fine lol.

I park my CTS-V in public parking lots all the time, but only malls and movie theatres. I would never park it at a TTC or GO lot..

Well it's no surprise to me that Escalades get stolen, their immobilizers aren't even approved to meet theft deterrent standards here. Prelude is somewhat more surprising.
