is this an end-of-line model?

hahaha, the first ever post about this printer was mine! :D

anyway, i did end up getting this printer around the beginning of the year for about $350 (yeah, it took me that long to decide), so this is definately a hot deal!

the printer itself is a decent printer. prints colour fairly well for a entry level budget colour laser. however if you print strictly black and white, the text isn't as sharp and crisp as it should be, but it'll pass.

as for end of model, it's still listed on the samsung site. but it's definately the oldest model listed, so it should be discontinued soon.

ALMOST tempted to buy a second one, just for the toners! :cheesygri

Toner is cheap too... currently $64.96 each (CMY+Black), with a total yield from each of 2000 pages (based on 5% coverage).

Black: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=596363&affixedcode=WW

Cyan: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=596369&affixedcode=WW

Yellow: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=596376&affixedcode=WW

Magenta: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=596371&affixedcode=WW

So, in summary... it is a pretty sweat deal. :)

My concern would be the toners that come with it. Are they all starter type cartridges like the black ones that come in most of the samsung B&W lasers? Because if they are the full toners like you mentioned it would cost you $260 for all 4 toners from Staples seperately which is more then you can get this whole printer new with 4 new toners.

It sounds like a good deal, but i will wait until color toner refill kits are available. I think next year, price will drop to $100ish....

I think they are already available. I just did a search on eBay for the model # of this printer and the word refill and got lots of options. Although some were pretty damn expensive.. But it seems they are out... The verdict is out if they are any good or not though...

What about the drum, and how often do you have to replace the drum?

A thread at NCIX mentions the toners are 2 k yield. Samsung also has 5 k ones.

is this an end-of-line model?

not sure about that, but like s/b said, it's pretty old (evident f/ past deal threads)

had FS wanted to disco' this model, well, the price would be ending in .95 or .97....

....

i have the Samsung ML-2010 and it does come w/ a starter cartridge...

FS.ca doesn't seem to mention about starter cartridges, but you might wanna checkout the box specs...

i remember the the ML-2010 box specs does indicate the yield.

just an additional note, this is the ONLY entry level colour laser with built in duplexing unit. even higher end models usually only have this as an option, and usually cost $100-200 mininum. and i believe Samsung has dropped the duplexing unit as standard on their new models that they've released.

hmm, didn't know the cartridges are only $65. last i recall they were around the $100 mark. not bad at all!

I got the Konica one at FS for $199.99 a few weeks ago, been very happy with it. I even threw out the box, so it means no return!

Konica 2400w has far better color output than this samsung so don't fret. I looked long and hard at the samsung because of the duplexing factor but in the end it wasn't enough to overcome its shortcommings in color output which i found very grainy. If i remember correcly this printer is also not a windows printer so i prints from dos as well.
