Hi, I was wondering if my partner and I had unprotected sex after not take the pill for 2 days after the 21 days (the two days within the week before starting a new pack), is there a chance of pregancy?

Thanks

When a woman stops taking the pill after the 21 days, she is supposed to get her period. As technically she is still on the pill (i.e. it's not as if she "missed" taking it for 2 days, is it?), she is not supposed to be able to get pregnant at all. However, it still is possible (you never know as the pill is not 100% effective).

If your gf is worried, she should contact her family doctor or the clinic where she gets the pill.

it's been about 10 years since I was on the pill, but the way it was always explained to me is this:
If she misses more than one pill, at any time during the cycle, she ok as long as she takes it within 24 hours and the next one at the regular time. If you miss two or more, you need to use a condom or alternative method until the END of the NEXT months pills.

so to answer your question (the way i was told, and i was on Ortho 7-7-7)she wouldn't be safe until after her next compelete pack of pills, which would be a month or so.
from what i underestand she did compelete a full pack after missing the dose, so you should be ok

edited to add: most pills are on a 21 day cycle and the last 7 pills (to make up 28) are just sugar pills. Many people don't even take the last seven (IF you are on this TYPE). If that's the case, they may have jsut been the sugar pills she missed. (she missed 22 and 23 of a 28 day pack, right?)

The Pill is only 95% effective (http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/1997/conceptbl.html) even if you take it according to instructions. There's always a chance of pregnancy.

If you want to be safe get m.a.p. (morning after pill). It's worth it if you are constantly worried. Make sure to take it within 3 days!!! (If you have med. coverage will only cost a couple of bucks as opposed to the $40-45). You can walk up to any pharmacist..it's not over the counter but you will pay full price like this. If you go to your family doctor, insureance will cover it. And take is as soon as possible:)

Ok. So from your explaination is that the pills still has effect on her even if she's on her non taking pill week. is that correct?

This is the 3rd day and her period suppose to start today according to her but it seems like it hasn't. so is she ok or not?

So just take the pill, and pull out when the party juice is about to erupt, and you should be OK.

You have the highest probability of getting pregnant about 2 weeks AFTER your period BEGINS.

there IS a possibility that she could be pregnant. This is when the ovulation takes place. It COULD be possible that the sperm met the egg >:(

instead of asking people on a forum if ur gf is okay or not, why dont you bring her to someone who might know, hmm lets say a doctor?

Yes, the pill is still "working" during the 7 days when she's not supposed to be taking it SO LONG AS she did not miss a pill in the previous 21 days.

You need to understand how the pill works when taken properly. It suppresses ovulation so that no egg is released at all. So if a woman has been taking the pill properly for 5 years, technically she hasn't ovulated in 5 years. The only reason why she stops taking the pill for 7 days (or takes sugar pills), is to allow a period to occur. If she kept taking pills without stopping, she wouldn't have normal periods and this carries some health risks.

Your other concern is probably the fact that her period hasn't started yet....and yes, if her period doesn't come soon (and she usually does get her period while on the pill), this could be a sign that she was already pregnant way more than 3 days ago. Like other posters have said, the pill is not 100% effective and the greatest risk is 2 weeks before her period.

You and/or your partner might want to talk to her family doctor or pharmacist to get a better understanding of how the pill works.
