Was able to configure this system on Dell. I might call in and see if I can get it with a video card upgrade (not an option online):

Switch over to notebooks (link on page)
Used the $100 coupon, upgraded Ram, Battery, and warranty (Which would you take, 1yr Complete Care or 3 year warranty [it comes with 1yr complete])

Don't know if you can upgrade the video on 640m. I've never seen a configuration w/o integrated video (although I probably am mistaken). I would take the 3yr vs. 1yr complete care...unless you are prone to dropping or spilling things on your laptop.

Welcome to RFD.

Thanks for the feedback... I guess I'm not too clumsy.

Upgrade to Windows Vista Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium from XP Media Center Edition

Using Firefox on Linux, it goes to the old version of the configuration, and you can still pick express upgrade. When I did it at home last night I wasn't able to select it...

So... Hot or Not people?

You can't upgrade the video on the 640m, it's too small (need to buy the bigger 6400 for the vid options). This is their "light and mobile" model.

I think this deal is hot given the 3 year warranty and core 2 duo. Dell tech support takes a lot of crap but I would still choose it over a brand from Future Shop (Acer, Gateway, etc).

Just yesterday I was configuring a 640m and the options were different. In the base model: 512meg/1024 yesterday...... Core 2 Due now/Core Duo yesterday, 14.1 WXGA+ now/ 14.1 WXGA yesterday.... no free Vista upgrade now, and there was yesterday.

Strange...

Ok...

Ram question:

1 Gig 2 Dims
or
1.5 Gig 2 Dims ($40 more)

What does the whole "dual" advantage mean? A link would be great!

Thanks,

Le Panda

Free upgrade to Vista option dissapeared for me on Linux now... But it's replaced with this little text:

Visit www.dellvistaupgrade.com to redeem your Express Upgrade to Windows Vista. At time of redemption Shipping and Handling and other applicable charges may apply.

I'm going to call in when I place my order I guess... Would like my airmiles though...
