I posted this cause I wanna start seeing the best deals on 42" sets approaching for B-Day whether it be LCD or Plasma.

Currently the Westinghouse is a front runner for me and a possible buy if I can get it at the right price, next would be Daytek 37” HD LCD for me but a little on small side to replace my LG 42" PX3DCV EDTV as my main viewing screen which has been a really solid set and will become a secondary unit in my home.

Now I see while browsing Costco, the Maxent MX-42X3 42" HDTV set at $1549 with free wall mount, that’s a nice bonus and we have a solid return policy behind us! Yeah I am aware the Daytek 50" HDTV is online at $1999 but thats $500 extra plus tax, there are also the 42" Akai and 50" Akais but the Maxent seems to have a better review than the 42" Akai and there is chance the Maxent may be less in store if you can find one.

The unit only has 1 HDMI and no internal tuner and can not do 1080p BUT reports are internally its a 42" Panny or possibly a Samsung. This is a very informative thread on the set. The unit came out in 05, whether it has gone through a revision or not I am not sure. It has pixel orbiter and is fanless and dead quiet from reading at avs, picture quality appears to be very very good

What I want to know, is it available locally and can GRY8 give some feedback on it. Most of the user reviews in avs forum are very positive with no real complaints or reason to return to upgrade. Anyone who has seen please report where?

Yes, I have been thinking a little bit about this TV too recently. Normally I would just skim by a relatively unknown (to me at least) brand name like Maxent, but I found the post on the avs forum as well that you link to and read several pages. Certainly seems to be a large number of satisfied owners and the claims that the panel is a panny (or in some conflicting posts a samsung) is intriguing too.

I would be interested in hearing the opinions of any owners or those that have seen this particular TV in person on display at Costco (don't confuse it with the ed versions or the other Maxent hd model that BB carries (which, by all accounts, is seriously inferior).

after reading more about the set on avs and doing a bit more googling the set is pretty well reviewed and user recommended, now to just find one in store

Maxent used to be known as Sampo (maybe here is they got the Samsung Panasonic ideea) a chinese manufacturer wich was fairly famous for their excellent DVD players.

For those following this thread and those considering either the Maxent or Westy like me. here is a good review and thoughts after some thorough testing of the Westy. Some great points however the OP in the thread has not owned the Maxent but makes some good points.

I have inquired and looks as though the Maxent is only available online with Costco at this time. Been a while since I have done some in depth research following forums as my EDTV has done really well to date, resolution is not the only thing leading to good PQ
