View Full Version : Ebay Question (When seller rips us off)

I bought NBA2k7 for the xbox 360 at the end of November from an ebay user who had great feedback. I found it odd that he never sent any message to me after 2 weeks that my game shipped especially when he's a Canadian user. Anyway, last Monday he had about 20-25 negative feedbacks in the same day. This guy started ripping everyone off taking the $ and not sending the ebay wins. So I filed the complaint on Ebay and Paypal. My question is, can I also call MBNA and get my money back through there as well? I don't know what paypal or ebay will do, and how long it will take. Last time they didn't do anything when someone ripped me off for a $20 item because it was below the minimum for them to refund me back, and I couldn't get a refund from Paypal because the expected time to complain passed... (I got screwed here because the seller kept telling me he sent the item every 2 weeks when he lives in Montreal like me and I never got the item then he left ebay too) This time my game is $48 so I get a refund... So can my credit card company do something as well just incase ebay or paypal is too slow?

Here's the guy's feedback

call MBNA ask them to do a charge back and you'll get your money back, don't bother with ebay/paypal, they won't do jack for you.

Heh, I got my first negative feedback today. He wrote with it:

"inadequate time to respond to email before seller left negative feedback."

Funny, considering I waited TWO weeks for a reply before I left the negative. ANd I sent him an invoice daily. Turns out the guy is a pathological liar in denial. He has a ton of negatives, and turns out he not only won my auction but some other guy selling the same item and didnt pay him either!

If you go into your own feedback section you can leave a notice on the feedback that he left like "he's a ****ing liar! Don't believe him!"

I did, I said:
"2 weeks is inadequate time? This guy is a liar...check his feedback" Plus the guy who left me feedback before him, was the guy who won the auction when I relisted it, and he got the product and he's happy, and the feedback says so...

Strange for a seller with that much feedback to suddenly start screwing people. I almost bought an xbox 360 game from him too.

Just realized this was a repost when you mentioned a "Xbox game":

I was winning an auction for one of his games (PDZ, I think), and was outbid in the last minute... Was a bit disappointed but now I consider myself lucky... what a jackass thing to do around Christmas time... :|

hey najibs, I think ebay recently adopted a new policy where any feedback left by a new ebayer (new ebayer = someone who created their account within the last 3 months?) will become void. so you might be able to get his feedback withdrawn. The made this rule under the asssumption that any new ebayer who is involved in a negative feedback is probably not a legit, honest seller who doesn't have a grasp of the importance ebay feedback system and could care less about their own feedback. I'm glad they came up with this rule since it's those as$holes with feedback score of 1 or 2 who leave a dishonest feedback, then quit ebay...ruining a veteran ebayer's feedback score.

also, one other requirement in order for this rule to apply is that the unscrupulous person must become unregistered.

I called MBNA and they told me that I can only do a charge back after I receive my next statement and then I have to dispute the charge. Is that how it usually works?

I got a message from paypal today, it says"
Dear ***,

After careful review, this claim has been decided in your favor and $17.00
USD has been credited to your account.

This is the maximum amount covered by PayPal. If your claim was for more
than the amount recovered, the outstanding balance is due from the seller
and we will make our best effort to recover it for you".
What to Do Next

This case is closed. No further action is required by you at this time.

Why are they only giving me $17 U.S? I don't get it.
Another thing is that I don't see where they even credited me the $17 U.S. It doesn't seem like they did.

File a chargeback, but just be aware that paypal will probably close your account or put you on the "screw-this-guy-next-chance-we-get" list.

I'm not denying the guy's a jerk, but your auction ended on the night of Nov 9 and you left neg early morning Nov 15. Not quite two weeks, barely 6 days.

Why would paypal close my account if I did a charge back? I'm the one who paid $ to a seller who is ripping everyone off.

Short answer is cause Paypal sucks. They would have to pay back the CC company the difference between what they refunded and what the guy got. If they wanted to do that, they would have given it straight to you. They don't want customers that expect to be treated fairly.

takes at least 2 working days to get a charge back, at least that was the case when I got a refund:|

This type of seller was mentioned in other threads. basically the guy plays it legitimate for awhile and then becoming a respected seller, decides to take a run at the bank. He robs these buyers in a short period, then leaves and cashes his paypal acct before they realize and gets off scot-free. Very meticulous and thought out. It's real hard to catch these kinds of guys. after they close his accts, he just creates new accounts on ebay and paypal and does the whole 1-2-3 routine I just mentioned.

Sigh, after I received my email today stating they recovered $0 out of $25 I got ripped off for, I searched and surely found this thread.

The one who outbid you in the last minute was probably me. :|

Talk about coincidence!

I think you mentioned this already on my thread. I doubt that that will happen since Paypal would lose customers left right and centre. If it does happen, I'll check into what Google's service looks like. :)
