Just got my Slingbox this past week and instealled it last weekend. At first It was crappy. Once I upgraded to roger's extreme (to get the 800Kbps upload) it is AMAZING. Best invention since sliced bread. Don't even need to connect a computer to the slingbox. Can hook up to my SA3250HD box.
The ultimate test for me will be when I visit Vancouver in a few weeks, we'll see how well the slingbox works.
Anyone else uses a slingbox?

I just bought a Slingbox last week and love it too! The only thing I'm disappointed about is the fact that you are required to use their software to view the streams. At work, I'm not allowed to install any software, so I cannot watch. :( I've read reports about people just copying their Slingbox folder from their Program directory to their USB memory keys, but this method apparently only works on XP and not 2000 (what my workplace runs).

I was Slinging, but then I found another free alternative, Orb, and I haven't looked back since.

ThxOrb is a lot more than just TV and a DVR. You can play any video file, your mp3's, view pictures, etc, all remotely through a browser window, and they quality is the same as Sling.
Another good thing about Orb is that you don't need to install client software to be able to view your multimedia files like you do with Sling.
The only downside to Orb is that your PC needs to be running (obviously), but other than that, it's amazing. Give it a try.

I tried ORB before getting my Slingbox, but decided to get the Slingbox anyway because I didn't have to leave my PC running all the time. Depending on your setup, I'd recommend either one of them.

I've really been looking to get a Slingbox as of late.
While I'd much prefer a free program like Orb, my computer isn't anywhere near my HD cable box, and even then, I wouldn't be able to hook it up to my computer since I don't have a video card capable of doing that. So I'd be limited to whatever channels I get through my TV tuner/regular cable.
And there's also the point about leaving my computer on all the time, which I don't like to do.

My computer isn't in the same room as TV either. I use the Ethernet over power-line adapters. I don't need my PC on either as it plugs into my Router. You don't require and inputs on your computer for the slingbox ( just the ethernet on the router ).

orb - requires a PC to operate software and stream media content / no proprietary client viewer required / as many viewers as your upstream can support
slingbox - standalone content streaming apparatus: no pc required / slingbox requires a proprietary client viewer allowing 1 viewer change & record channels
mac - you must purchase the newest version and look for the mac logo
if you torrent or P2P 24/7 then you understand your streaming quality is limited by your upload speed (broadcast side) and also your download connection on the viewing end. slingbox is compromised to 1 viewer for copyright/licensing purposes.
