Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I win more than once?

Yes.

What happens if the 2500, 5000, 7500, or 10000th poster doesn't post a Happy Anniversary message with PriceCanada.com in it?

They don't win. The next person to post a Happy Anniversary message with PriceCanada.com in it wins instead.

If I post a winning post, and I had "Happy 1st Anniversay PriceCanada.com!" as my Signature but not in my post, would that count as a win? I get the feeling the answer is no...but it's worth a shot asking!

It has to be in the message itself.

I don't think anyone is trying to publicly exploit the contest, I think they're just making sure it's failsafe when the time comes...

Yes, that's correct. The 5th post in the thread (Link here) (http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4307735&postcount=5) shows that Ryan deems it the 5th post in the thread.

How hard is it to post a Happy Anniversary message? When you submit it, you'll know in less than 10 seconds if you won or not, and if you edit it quick enough, it doesn't even show up as an edit (even though mods can see it, me thinks).

What else are you planning on typing? Purplemonkeydishwasher?

I could very easily cheat to win by coding a program to post 50 messages concurrently when there is 9960 posts. Suffice to say... I wont ;)

4. Odds of winning depend on the number of entrants.

No it doesnt. Your odds of winning can be calculated.

1 out of 2500
1 out of 5000
1 out of 7500
1 out of 10000

well, actually, your odds entering right at this minute is 1 to infinite. You know for sure the number of posts right now is 1300, you are not going to win. Where as if you entered when the number of posts was 2455, your odds are about 1 in 50. So it should say, "Odds of winning depend on the time of posting."

But in a sense it does depend on the number of entrants, as with only yourself entering, the highest number of posts you can legally have is 150, ;)

Yeah, and I think there is also a script running that doesn't let you post the exact same message that you have recently posted. As you can tell, there are some messages that say: “Happy Anniversary PriceCanada.com!23” ;)

Started freaking out so i hit reply it went through and i hit send. Ends up I was like 50 posts too late. I checked out all the entries and like all 50 of us were at like the same time :(.

umm. my question was about 'double-postings' ?

..like, if there was an actual generated error during that very moment and two posts appear one right after another, even though the 25second rule applies, it gets voided all-together and the posts will appear in synchro.

..this has happened to me plenty of times.. and my question would be, what if this occurs and the second of the two postings landed on the 2500/5000/7500/10,000 mark making it a winner? does that double-posted reply get removed/revoked or does it apply?

(trust me, this happened to me often)

You can't narrow it down that close, just leave it at depends on the peak number of entries at any given time.
Yesterday when I looked @ the posts it was close to 4930, after I submitted my entry I was way off the mark.

Double postings are no longer possible, since the forum added the 25 seconds wait time between posts.
Moreover, even if by some freak of nature (programming) you got a double posting, whichever posting that hits the milestone will be the winning post.

Hey I put at the end of my post that there is jealousy there, but there is just something about it that lets you down.

I mean RFD is a community, and the deals, and survival of this community depend on contributing members. In all honesty, why should I contribute now, if I could just come and take without ever needing to give back?

Having lurkers / zero posters winning contests fosters this mentality.

Personally I think contests should only be available to those people who were already signed up before the start date of the contest, AND have a minimum of 50 or 100 posts.

And yeah I did admin other very popular boards, and I know post requirements sometimes lead to a bit of spam, but from what I have seen RFD deals with it quite appropriately.

I think it is a valid argument or discussion

That, right there, is the sign of someone who knows RFD. Way to lighten the mood! :cheesygri

(Posts like this are the reason that we have a community, and the reason that lots of people wish the contests were closed to community members, and not lurkers, new sign-ups, etc. It's too bad I missed winning by probably a second or so, but I'd be less dissapointed if the eventual winner were a regular contributor to the forums.)

I have no idea what that username is, what e-mail is attached to it or anything. As to why I had to sign up again. I took about a year off coming to these fourms and just signed back up in september.

I signed up back in 2004 originally, after my brother(username: cjpark) told me about this site.

If there is some sort of issue with all this Ryan please contact me first.

Thanks.

I think you spoke too soon...VV

That account wasn't used in this contest and has been dormant for 1 year+.

It's a clean win.

Ryan, it will be great if you have some statistics, just for the fun of it - like how many posts per seconds starting with the 9000th post, etc. Your servers hold up pretty good.

I'm sure there are other people curious about this.

No user can post more than 150 times in this thread.

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/misc.php?do=whoposted&t=376062

620 - 150 = 470

10,147 - 470 = 9677

Contest should still be going.

Congrats to the winner!

Congrats !

My sister was 10,001. Almost !

You know what the funny thing is ? After the thing finished, I talked to her and I said "Imagine what the guy feels like that had the 9999th post ?" ... and then about 2 minutes after I let her know that she had the 10001st post of the thread

Oh well, next time. But, the people in 9999th and 10001st place definitely also must get an Xbox 360 :D

For Ryan or anyone else who might know.

I haven't heard anything about the x-box yet, as to e-mails or PMs. I PMed Ryan, how long do these things normally take? Not trying to push anything, just curious just incase maybe I didn't recieve the e-mail for some reason or another.

Thanks.

Ya same with my 2 messages. I know some contests take a while to get everything worked out properly but just thought I would have heard something in 9 days.

Well at least were in the same boat here.

Thanks for letting me know.

First thing next week, I promise. :)

Stickers and prizes from those who have PMed me are going out today.

I didn't hear from a lot of the sticker winners though (all the other prizes were claimed).

Got my stickers today.
A whole bunch of PriceCanada.com and RFD stickers.
I'm thinking about holding my own sort of contest to get rid of some of them.

Thanks RFD.
