Are these any good? Is there something better out there for comparative prices right now?

Thx.

BTW - which is better in general....+R or -R for recording from a DVD recorder. My machine can use either.

Sorry...what does "valueline" mean. Is it just packaging?

As well the Taiyo's are 8x and the Memorex are 16x

Value Line is the equivilant of Taiyo Yuden's B Grade media. It's not just packaging.

Also, Taiyo Yuden's 8x media is far FAR better in terms of compatability and initial burn quality to most of Memorex's product. Unfortunately, value line media is often 16x Taiyo Yuden downgraded to 8x in order to perform better, and Taiyo Yuden's 16x media is rather crappy in comparison to their 8x media.

I would have opted for this if only it was DVD+R as my primary use would be in a Standalone DVD Recorder which supports both DVD+R and DVD-R but DVD+R is always preferred and better.

You consider "TY" (Taiyo Yuden) no-name :?: And you consider Memorex/Fujifilm "name-brand" ?? I think you definitely need to read up some DD's threads ...

Unfortunately, DVD media is not something that you can buy/trust simply based on the "brands" ...

Try to run DVD Identifier on your "name brand" discs and you may be surprised by the fact that many "name brands" do not make their own discs ...

Yeah, it's pretty rare for a "name brand" disc to make their media anymore. Right now, "name brand" DVD media is mostly ok at best. Why? because they can't make money on it, so they don't make effort to get good media anymore. Luckily Maxell does make some higher end media themselves still, like their BQ series.

Are Memorex TYs value line, or professional grade?

I picked up some of these discs, they are TYG02. Interestingly enough the sales person pointed to the other Taiyo Yuden discs and not the ones in the picture. These simply have a top label which warns you ... hm I lost it, something about dvdhq.com.. which doesn't exist anymore.

In any case wasn't an important warning for most people with computer burners. The disc packaging itself didn't say made in japan or Taiyo Yuden.

I haven't burnt any yet, when I do I'll report back with a quality test.

I have badly experienced with this Memorex DVD. It does not resist heat after you burn, you may get some bad sectors ended up the junk.

Did anybody get the Kodak's that The Source/Old RatShack had in their sales flyer
2 - 100 packs in cake boxes for just under $50..I was wondering if that was a good deal..I passed on it because I am fully stocked in DVD+R since black friday.
I dont know who manufactures Kodak's discs, but I did see they were 16X when I had them in hand at the store yesterday..I think they are going off sale after tonight anyways.

despite the cheapness, it's prbly not worth shelling out a penny...

those are no better than the fujis that FS/BB sell...

For the same price I would stick with the name brand

A lot of the other blank media companies make discs for brands like Memorex. For example Dysan DVDs are made by Ridata. Taiyo Yuden is a great brand name and I pick up most of my stuff from this website:

www.superdealproducts.com

Someone is usually online during the day to chat with you if you have any questions regarding the different brands of media they carry. They appear to have a sample section too, but last I asked they are in the process of getting that up and running which I think is great to be able to try one or two discs instead of being stuck with an entire spindal of discs that don't work well.
