Anyone came back from the event yet? Does it work like what it used to?
If they allow you to use the scrach card for the day, the following strategy will work the best:
Look for cheap items, like chocolate bar for $1, to buy to get a scratch card first. If it is not the card with highest, or higher discount, discard the card and get another card with another cheap item (chocolate bar). Keep doing until you get a good scratch card with high discount. Then start your real shopping and save big....

When I bought my things today the cashier took it. They used to let you keep them, but now I think they fear people from passing on the good percent off cards to other people for the day.
An interesting note is that the cashier scratched the wrong one so I got a 40-60% off instead of 30-50% off, unless a sweatshirt is outerwear...
Finally, the odds as it says on the back of the card states the following -
1 in 1000 has the highest discount
10 in 1000 has the second highest discount
39 in 1000 has the third highest discount
950 in 1000 has the worst discount

I went yesterday. I scratched the card before check-out and the cashier asked if I wanted to hold on the card, but I did have the lowest discount. I must have seen about 100 card pre-sratched cards lying around.
I noticed that even though Heys hard shell luggage is excluded, you can use the discount on their soft shell cases. Also, the 10% on housewares includes Godivas chocolates.

Eh, we usually let the customer keep it, or we chuck it if they don't want it... At my cash desk, anyways (Lower Floor at Oakridge) I've seen some of us let customers scratch more than one card (you know...if they're nice and pleasant and courteous and whatever and we like them).
The cards do say the date "Friday" or "Saturday" or "Sunday" on them, but I bet if you got a good one on Friday, you could use it for Saturday and Sunday if you had the right cashier and attitude ;)

just got back...meh, just like any other weekend at the bay
almost every weekend at the bay, clothing are always put on sale for 30% off (I drop by the bay almost every weekend so i notcied)...
and this weekend is not one of those weekends.
so you're more than likely to scratch 30% off anyway, so nothing special here...
However...I bought a blazer this evening
reg. $189
clearance $132 (yellow-tag)
now, yellow-tag clearance items are always put an addtional 30% off every weekend, and this weekend was no exception.
now, when I went to pay for it, I was supposed to scratch the 10-25% off circle (for clearance items) BUT the associate asked me to scratch 30%-50% circle
I wasn't about to point out his mistake ;)
i scratched 30% off, no surprise...
so i ended up getting the blazer for
$132 - 30% (yellow-tag) - 30% (scratch):
~$65 :cheesygri

That sucks, because I hate shopping on weekends. Well, I guess I pay more for the convenience of not getting jostled by rabid shoppers.

Well, I guess I pay more for the convenience of not getting jostled by rabid shoppers.okay well not all clothing, some stuff never goes on sale...but those are designated as "power buy" items this weekend (unless it's the real hi-end stuff like suits or denim, which are excluded from scratch and save), so you're scratching 10% off (most likely) if you want to buy them...unless they make a mistake and scratch the wrong circle, like what happened to me

I tried my luck with 99-cents christmas tree decor items. After 10 different scratch cards with the same worst discounts, i gave up. I talked to a cashier and was told that she had only seen those worst discounts all morning. I remembered that i can get a decent scratch card with only 2 or 3 tries last year.

Judging from the odds, you need to try 20 times to get a better discount, at least statistically so. ;)
