Hi, after looking around I finally bought a car. 2003 Honda Civic LX (black) with powertrain warranty until Oct.07. I paid $11,900 and it only has 60,000kms, loaded with brand new tires.

This is my first import, so do I spend the 1100$ on a 4 year powertrain warranty..... or save my money (seeing how reliable they tend to be).

Thx in advance

If powertrain is just referring to engine and tranny i would say no. How often does an engine or tranny go. Most problems with vehicles dont involve the engine and tranny. Usually electrical problems

yea the powertrain is mainly that..... I can buy extended bumper to bumper also...... but that would start immediatly, but the power train would not kick in until the original one expires.... so no overlap.

WOW, amazing deal! I would save money, if was bumper to bumper warranty then yes, but for powertrain only, no. Their powertrain is rock solid, and for that matter, the rest of the car. Sweet deal, enjoy!

Just make sure that you follow the owner's manual on maintaining the car. If you have 60,000kms on the car, you may want your mechinic to look at it at your next oil change. Most likely, you may want to change the tranny fluid (honda 4L tranny oil < $15), Flush the rad (Honda pre-mix antifreeze < $20), Front & Rear brake service (replace pads if necessary). In my experience with HOnda, you front brakes should last until 75k Kms (depending on your driving habits) All the above normally cost be around $150 in labour from my certified Honda Tech here in the GTA. This is a worthwhile investment to prolong the life of the car. Good luck & enjoy!!!!!

Thx all, will do.

Well like I said I can get bumper to bumper, but that would start NOW... overlapping the 10 months of powertrain I have....

I think I will risk it, and just maintan it properly.....
thx again

I would highly reccomend buying the extended comprehensive warranty as long as it's a Honda product

common issues that are gauranteed to afflict your car: front compliance bushings, front engine mount, drl relay. Those three items right there will pay for most of the cost of the extended warranty. That's not eve including some of the common issues such as window regulators, fuel door release cable, etc.

I will ask the dealer what they recommend... but I was just gonna wing it and hope for the best. I can fix and replace most things myself.

thx

Wow, more than 200k km already. That's a lot. I have 90k in mine. So far: one remote key died last year, 2nd one died a couple of months ago, the fuel door cable was broken 1.5 years ago, the replaced cable was broken just last week. Each item costs about $100 :-( Feel rip off especially for the remote ... For the fuel door cable, I am planning to buy the repair kit from http://www.fueldoorfix.com/ and do it by myself :-)
