I play the demo for Battlefield 1942 all the time! Free and lots of fun.
There are 2 versions, single player and multiplayer (multi is the most fun). There is only 1 level for each version, but for free it's great.
As well they just released some new version.. BF1942 Special Weapons (i beleive thats the name), it's good for when you finally get bored of the other versions.

What's the best free MMRPG (mud style, or otherwise)?
I'm currently playing SWG (it's starting to grow on me) and still have an AO account that I may want to reactivate, but I'd like to get some free MMRPG action. Plus, I kinda like the old school rpgs....

Soldat is a really fun game!
Hey Stunna, you're forgetting about TetriNET 2 (http://www.tetrinet2.com) and Steam (http://www.steampowered.com) which allows you to play Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, etc. free.
I wish Ragnarok Online is still free. Well now I get to play Final Fantasy XI beta free. :P
EDIT: Also forgot to add Grand Theft Auto (http://www.rockstargames.com/classics).

Oh, just remembered I read this today.
"Steam Beta Ends, Full Version Ships Next Week
The Steam Beta has delivered several Valve games and popular Half-Life MODs to over 300,000 gamers, and will come to a close Tuesday evening (Pacific Daylight Time). The first full version of Steam, Valve's broadband platform for the delivery and management of digital content, will launch at 11 am PDT on Wednesday. Set up installers for the full version, which will be free of charge to existing Half-Life and Counter-Strike players, will be available from www.steampowered.com and leading game sites. Anyone interested in hosting the installer or becoming a Steam Service Provider, please email biz@steampowered.com.
Valve would like to extend its thanks to everyone who participated in this beta."
Which means no more free Counter-Strike. :(
You have to buy Half-Life and use the cd-key in Steam in order to play now.
Remember, Half-Life 2 comes out at the end of this month! Everyone must buy!!

It's basically like worms in the sense of turn based strategy with angles and wind factor, cept you control one guy. It's quite alot of fun, different tanks are better at different things, you earn money to buy items to increase your stats, and such.

It's a text based game where you build up a country and attack other countries and what not. What makes this game fun though is that there are alliances that you can play in and these alliances war eachother. There is a lot of politics behind this game with pacts being signed between alliances and what not. The game itself isn't what takes up the time, since it is turn based and you get a turn every 40 minutes or so, but the out of game politics within alliances and with other alliances is what may take time for this game.
Imagine sitting in an IRC chat with 50-100 members of your alliance getting ready to strike another alliance. It gets quite exciting sometimes for a really basic game.
If you want to join an alliance PM me and I'll set you up.

Bittorrent is a file sharing program in the vein of Kazaa, Morpheus, etc though with differences. Downloading the "free" games is technically illegal. There are sites out there that use bittorrent for legitimate purposes (such as "Red vs Blue" episode d/ls off their site), but I know for a fact that most of the files on ******** are hacked and cracked copies of games.

SubSpace (aka Continuum)
Get it here. (http://www.subspacedownloads.com/)
In brief, it's multiplayer asteroids: top-down 2D shooter. Incredibly addictive, unbelievably simple.
Its best features, however, are an amazing chat interface, and the extensible nature of the game engine. From a basic set, they've spawned a hockey zone, a soocer zone (aka Powerball), a 4v4 League into its upteenth season, CTF, and myriad others.
Check it out, and my god have mercy on your soul.

Starsiege TRIBES is a revolutionary first-person shooter set in the Starsiege Universe which pits different warring tribes against each other. This first-person 3D action shooter is designed from scratch to focus on cooperative multiplayer gaming. Players use single-player training missions to develop the skills required to become full-fledged warriors, but the real heat of TRIBES radiates from multiplayer combat between two to 32 players connected over the Internet or LAN.
Sorry about that, edited to the direct download link.

Here's a great free game: The Ur-Quan Masters (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/)
It's basically a remake of a classic 90's game Star Control 2, but they didn't have the rights to the old name. It's a action/adventure/RPG kind of game, highly reccomended if you want a good storyline and dont care about graphics (it has a bit of a cult following as well).

Warrock! A free (for now?) online FPS game ALMOST identical to Battlefield 2.
http://www.warrock.net/
Because it is new, it isn't fully developed yet. If you look at the trailer you will see that they have Jets, Helicopters and other various vehicles that the beta doesn't have at the moment.
It's not certain yet if the game will remain free but the community is large and it seems to be increasing. I have it myself and it is a good game that can hold its own ground on gameplay, fun and graphics.
Hope you guys enjoy it.

Have you been loyal to your RPG for what seems like an eternity?
At Medievia, we have players who have been loyal to us for over ten years. The reason is that Medievia is never remade; instead, it's upgraded every day. It has become the largest game in the world in size and in features.
We can do this because Medievia is a text RPG game. Everything we program is all about new features and functionality instead of wasting time with the latest graphics and sound. As an RPG player, you know what's important for maximum fun in a game. Come check us out.
We know you're loyal. We know you shy away from trying new games. We have over twenty-six thousand players who felt the same way when Medievia was recommended to them. The difference is Medievia is not just a game, but an international group of friends and family who just can't seem to part ways. No other RPG game connects people online like Medievia does. We have five hundred people playing together right now.
If you think your latest RPG is fun, we dare you to enter Medievia. It will change your RPG life forever! Come check it out at http://www.medievia.com.

It's fun for about a week and then gets very repetitive. You level up a robot to kill other robots, buy parts to upgrade yourself, etc, etc. Same ol' type of game but if you have some friends to play with it could be fun.
It's supposed to be free forever like gunbound, but you can pay cash for more advanced upgrades.

Trackmania Nations Forever
http://www.trackmania.com/en/index.php?lang=en&rub=nations
Best free racing out there in the internet to date:)
Been playing it for 1.5 years till I uninstalled it just because it wan't really fun for me anymore.
Here are some tips when you start in a server.
If you finish a track and come in first, don't assume that you've won the race. The object of this game is to achieve the fastest time possible.
Also if you bump into a wall i highly suggest you start over again from the beginning just because if you continue from where you crashed, you won't make either the next loop or you won't have enough speed for the next ramp.
Finally you can't bump into other cars so basically everybody is invincible to you expcept for walls of course;)
And there are speed boosters throughout the maps to help you.
Enjoy:)

Anyone here enjoy old-style adventure games??? There are a bunch of remakes from old point and click classics from game makers like Sierra (the Kings Quest series for example). Adventure Game Studio (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/) [AGS] is a free adventure game engine and it's got a great community of DIY game developers.
Titles by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw (http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/games.htm) [any game by this guy is rock solid], Herculanean Effort Productions (http://www.herculeaneffort.com/index.php?page=about) [of "The Apprentice" fame], Franciso "Grudislav" Gonzalez [the Ben Jordan series] are all very popular.
There are lots more titles (Wikipedia has a really limited list of some of the good ones) but part of the pleasure is taking the time to discover little gems here and there from different developers from the AGS site that have won community awards (http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?category=102). It's just great to see what other talent is out there. The majority of these games are kinda 2D lo-res so you don't need a dedicated graphics card or anything to play. Only a handful have full sound and voice acting, usually denoted by the word "deluxe" after the game title.
More personal AGS picks:
Duty and Beyond - interesting pixel art; truly addictive adventure spanning different locales/eras, it really is tough being in the service industry!
Spooks - delightful fantasy set in the discovery of two different worlds
Mind's Eye - psychological thriller/mystery/suspense
Emily Enough - love the black humor in this one
Pleurghburg: Dark Ages - detective/forensics/crime genre
Heartland Deluxe - mystery/suspense
-------------------
Online fantasy RPG I play is Perfect World International by Chinese developers with their proprietary "Angelica" 3D game engine. PERFECTWORLD.COM
For premium adventure games, Game Tap's selection ain't too shabby but you do need a decent computer to play them.

This is a nice open source poker game that features nice graphics, single-player, and multi-player online modes.
Online mode doesn't require an external internet connection, so you can host your own tournaments behind firewalls.
It supports PC, MAC, and Linux. Plus the source code is available.

I don't understand your post. Please explain.
Anyway. This is as free as it gets. You can get the source code even.
I tried the game and its does its job nicely. You can host your own LAN parties behind firewalls (i.e. it doesn't need a server on the internet) and thats exactly what I need for an inter-office tournament. However if you do want to play with people on the internet, it has a server full of Italians and Germans--you need to get through the firewall for that though.
There seems to be a small but dedicated following and the game is still being updated.

I'd like to add a game to the link, it's called FIFA Online. It runs on the same engine as the PC version of EA Sports' FIFA 10. You sign up and then download it (need to have a fast connection like DSL to play). You can play your own career by picking any team (which you also manage) which is the offline part of the game, you can play as World Cup teams, or you can play multiplayer. So it's not like one of those cheap 2-D online games. Currently, it's completely free to register. It's not as customizable as FIFA 10 but more enjoyable.
Here's a video of gameplay:

Hey everyone, just want to show you all a neat site I find myself on when I am bored. It is called OMGPOP, and it is a kid oriented game site in your browser that runs in Flash. It offers games like Pool and spinoff games of Mario Kart, bomberman and man. It features a medal system, an exp system, and a coin system. If you are a kid or just want something to burn time here and there(I do playing pool xD), check it out.

PS: Just so anybody doesn't think I am tricking them, this is indeed a referral link. But using a referral link is actualy beneficial to you because the person who refered you is able to give you 50 exp a day with just one click, and obviously, it helps me get coins =)

I tried this out about 5 months ago. Not sure if it has changed but when I tried it, it was cool at first. But then I noticed that it was a very small world (big in size but no races). Also the cars you have are shiiiitttt. The free base game is a nice feature but everything else in the game you have to buy, ie: powerups, cars, races. Kinda sucks after 20 mins.

Proun is a strange racing game in a world of geometric objects and large coloured surfaces. You avoid obstacles by rotating around a cable in order to gain as much speed as possible. There is no up or down; there is only the cable to which you are attached.;)

I second the person that mentioned quakeonline.com, classic game that started the FPS craze (based on the original Doom) - this is the Quake 3 engine... not as fancy graphics as today's best games, but works pretty well on all newer computers. Lots of servers to choose from, earn rewards, Capture the flag, Clan arena, classic deathmatch, modes... every weekened there is a Devpick as well, generally the developers there put up some funky mod on a few servers. Easy to install into Firefox or Internet explorer, FREE plug-in. http://www.quakeonline.com
Also for you retro-gamers out there, here is a great and fun flash game... The classic NES Mario Brothers game, but you can choose other famous NES characters to play in Mario world like Megaman or the Contra guy (or yes, Mario) - can save your progress and reload it later, as well. http://http://www.explodingrabbit.com/games/super-mario-bros-crossover

Microsoft previously demonstrated Cut the Rope on Windows 8, and Hegerty revealed there are discussions around a Windows Phone 7 app. Although the latest effort is HTML5, it doesn't work correctly on Windows Phone's browser, and there's no plans to fix that. Microsoft's Cut the Rope for IE9 follows a similar effort by Google, Chrome Angry Birds, and does let Safari, Firefox, and Chrome users play the game. However, If you want access to the special seven levels you'll have to use Internet Explorer 9 and pin the site to your taskbar.
